C300 or Vertex 2?

Thread Starter
So, I'm wanting to take the plunge into the world of SSDs...

I can get a 64GB Crucial C300 for ~$117CAD plus taxes & shipping or a Vertex 2 80GB for $135 or a 60GB for just over $100.

What's the better option?

I've read lots of positive reviews about the C300's and a lot of mixed reviews about the Vertex 2.

Price does matter, but if I'm spending $20 more on a better drive, I won't lose any sleep over it.

What do you guys think?

For the sole reason of space I would get the vertex 2.

You will be much more satisfied with an 80GB drive which is roughly 74GB as opposed to the 64GB drive which is probably about 60GB.

Think of it this way...

You need to fit your OS on that bad boy, and then a few applications.

It will fill up quickly, and if I know what I am talking about, Which I do...you should always leave room for the SSD to make adjustments, they actually build them with that extra space behind the scenes, but with these cheap MLC tech. drives they do not give you nearly enough to sustain performance with less than 7% free space.

You will enjoy your leap into SSD...That I am SURE of.

Actually the 80GB Vertex 2 is $135 after a $15MIR which I hate dealing with through OCZ. It takes like 6 months to get your money back.

I also just found a Crucial C400 64GB for $107. So its roughly $50 for an extra ~10GB. I think I may just go with the C400. $107 is a pretty good price for a new drive.

Storage also isn't an issue. I have 2x 640GB WD Blacks, 1x 1TB WD Black and a 2TB WD Green in there at the moment.

Go for the cheaper on you can find!

and SSD is an SSD there all basically the same! you will not notice anything in real life.. you only see the difference in Bench mark numbers... that's about it...

whats with all the comments? The c300 smashes the vertex 2 loud and clear.. it's still the current king even with the new vertex 3 out.. look at the QD 4k tests.. nothing comes close to it..
