Hi temps on i5 2500K

Hi folks, first post so hope you can help.

I have an i5 2500K 3.3GHZ (P8P67) and a Asetek 510LC cooler. I have overclocked it to 4.3GHZ, but when I stress test with prime95 the temps go past 72C! I tried it at 4.5GHZ and it jumped almost instantly from 31C idle to 70C as soon as the stress test started and continued to rise until I stopped it at 78C! It also drops instantly back to idle temps as soon stress test is stopped.

Could this be a faulty cooler or poor contact with CPU, or a faulty sensor? What's the best way to check?

The rad is cooled with a 120mm fan blowing air from inside the case, out the back.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thats not normal for Asetek 510LC cooler, I believe it has poor contact with cpu, double check it if tight and secure. or it could be mother board sensor is broken.

That's not mind-blowingly hot. Was your last chip an AMD?...

With out knowing your voltages there is no way to tell if that is normal or not. Those temps are well within operating range, though so there isn't anything to worry about.

Thanks for the info. The Vcore is at 1.28v. It's the instant drop in temp as soon as the stress test stops that made me think there could be a problem. Not even 1 second before temps show back to idle temp.
I may try 4.5 again for a bit longer, just to see how high/fast it climbs. Last time I upped to Vcore to 1.31v (I think), but I'm pretty new to overclocking so I may need to get more help.

That's completely normal.

Well, that's a relief

One last thing. At the moment the fan blows air from the case, through the rad and out the back. Would it cool better drawing air from outside the case?

I have plenty of flow through the case - 2 x 120mm intake fans on front, 1 x 120mm intake on the side and a 240mm exhaust out the top.
