Looking for good 2.1 or 5.1 speaker set, $20-$50

Thread Starter
My friend has a STRDE635 receiver (100 db SNR). He is looking for a good set of either 5 channel surround sound speakers or a good 2.1 set.

Preferably refurbished or used ones because he does not have a really big budget.

He does not mind paying more than $50, if it gives him a lot more quality.

The receiver is 80 watts per channel with 8 ohms input impedance.

You aren't going to find anything for $50, especially non-powered speakers that would use that reciever.

I assume he's looking for passive speakers as he mentioned the reciever in the first post. But the Promedia 2.1 is your best option, I wouldn't get anything less.

Thanks everyone for your help. I did a bit of research and told my friend he would probably have to spend $150-200 before I even posted this thread on the forums. My friend told me that i have too high standards of audio quality.

Everyone pretty much confirmed that I'm not crazy when i told my friend he needed to up his budget. Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions.

You can't even build 3 empty wooden enclosures for $20 by hand. Not sure what you were expecting.

well there is these:
Bookshelf- http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-652
Sub- http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-633

the reviews say their good for the price and better when lightly modded. personally i would make him go for better but...

he could have fun and build a pare of speakers but that could start costing a lot more then he wants. did mine and ended around $230 in the end.
