PSU - Enough for this system?

Thread Starter
So guys, i made a similar thread a while ago, but i'm thinking about better components now, and i'd like your opinion on this:

I'm thinking about using an OCZ Stealthxstream 500W on the following system

AMD Phenom II x6 1075T 3.0Ghz

4GB kingston DDR2 RAM

Amd Radeon 6870

1 IDE, and 1 SATA III HDDs

1 - 120mm LED fan, 3 - 80mm LED fans

ECS 780GM-A Black Edition (i know, not the best)

No intention on crossfiring, still, i really doubt the PSU is able to hold.
However, i know very few things about PSU's, so Pro's please enlighten the curious dumbnut here

Thank you all in advance

Easily enough.

500w should be enough, but as you are already aware if you want to go crossfire you'll need to upgrade.

Why the IDE hard drive?

Do they even make AM3 boards with IDE sockets on them anymore?

Are you sure it is enough? I used a PSU calculator (namely this one http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine) and it showed max consumption at 515W, this PSW has it's breakpoint at exactly 500W (saw on reviews). Also, someone told me these usually aren't reliable, hence why i'm asking.

About the IDE one, i have it lying around and i don't feel like throwing it at the wall... yet... Anyway, it's mainly for storage of crap ^^

You can safely ignore power supply calculators, 500W will be more than enough for that system. In reality you will never come close to drawing 500W from that PSU.

PSU calculators are garbage, don't use them. I'm positive it's enough. As far as the actual quality of the unit, I'm not entirely sure. That's your call, I'm sure someone will have some experience on that around here. But straight up power wise, that rig will never pull 500W.

edit: Damnit Shub, you fast bastard.

If you want to be certain, you can look up the TDP of each component you're putting in and add them all up, with a little overhead room for overclocking. That said, 500 watts is enough for a single CPU and a single GPU unless you're running an insane overclock or have something unorthadox going on.

Something unorthodox? I mean, i steal a few watts and smuggle them into japan... ok, Lame jk.

Anyway, about the quality of the PSU, it's quality has been zealed in various forums and sites (this one included i think), so i'm fairly positive of it's quality.

Also, can anyone tell if the amp output is enough for the GPU? Anyway, I really appreciate all the help you all gave, and future help aswell ^^
