window modding

Is there a way other than using a U channel molding to get like an indent around the edge of the window? I want to get that type of look, but I don't like the look of the U channel molding.

I was thinking of getting like pliers and doing it that way but it wouldn't be even.

Are you talking about trying to get a rolled edge or something? I'm not too sure what you're asking...

no it certainly wouldnt be even. if you dont want to use u-channel molding...and i really dont know why you wouldn't, youre only other option would be to make the hole, and use some sort of deburring tool around all the edging to make it smooth and even. then you'd have to repaint the door. you might do a google search on window mods for case doors. i have seen some people do nice work, although it usually costs more.

If you start cutting and grinding the door to make the cut look good, you'll want to paint the edges (and usually the rest of the door to match) to cover up the spots you took down to bare metal.

Any material you want is fine, it really doesn't matter. Pick a balance of price and clarity/color/durability that you want. Drilling and tapping the holes and using screws is fine, or some double sided 3M foam tape also works.

which do you think is more durable/safe to do, drilling or using the foam tape?

That's the tape I used and it's plenty durable. It's really surprising just how much weight it can hold. It would also be a lot less headache than drilling. Doing an amateur mod w/ screws that doesn't look janky would be a challenge. Tape gets my vote, with the only downside being that you can see it on the inside of the door.
