i7 2600k: How to use Integrated Graphics?

Thread Starter
I recently got a new PC build with the 2600k, and from what I've read and understand, it has Integrated HD Graphics 3000. I'm wondering if it's possible to use it even though I have an dedicated graphics card. I was thinking that maybe I don't have the programs or drivers to recognize the integrated graphics, but I have no clue. Any help would be appreciative. My specs are below. Thanks a lot.

And before anyone goes "Why would you want to do that!?", it's to not only understand this chip better and take the time to get more familiar with it, but to save power and keep the wattage low when I'm not editing videos or playing games, if possible.

Maybe someone with a similar chip can explain better but in my view a simple bios switch should do the trick. To go from discrete to integrated smile.gif

It's my understanding that you have to have an H67 or Z68 board for the IGP to work.
Can some one clear that up?

You need a Z68 board.

Not sure if you can use H67 but it sounds logical.

This is correct.

Sorry OP, but you're out of luck here. You have a P67 board. :\

I did not check his sig rig. You are correct, the current mobo does not support IGP!

Motherboard
ASUS P8P67 LE

The P67 motherboard series are not using the IGP.
Look for a H67 board instead if you want to use the built-in option.

Thanks for the fast responses.

That's too bad then. Would it be possible then, with the rig I have set up, to simply get a new motherboard? And how much might it cost?

Again, thanks for the help.

you can get a decent P8H67 mobo for about $150.. but i would not do that

cannot overclock the CPU and use IGP on H67

wait for Z68, wiki says is releasing this month

If you buy a new mobo and you get an H67 chipset you would not be able to overclock you i7, a better alternative is to get a cheaper graphics card, and just switch it out. Still not that simple but beter than having to switch out mobos each time. Best though would be to underclock your 6950 to the least you can have it then when you want to play a game etc. Just overclock it.
