MSI X58 Pro (not -E or SLI, the original X58 Pro) BIOS Question

Thread Starter
So, I've got the original X58 Pro motherboard, running gentoo as my fileserver/devbox (I grew out of gaming and started doing a lot more development)

I've been experiencing random kernel panics/lock up and haven't been able to nail it down. Was thinking it was memory, but i ran a memtest all night and never had any problems. However I did find that my memory timings were automagically set to 9-9-9-XX but the memory I have installed is rated at 6-6-6-20. I just changed that about a half hour ago, so we will see what happens there.

Ok, but to my question. According to MSI's website, there are version 8 bioses for this board (im currently running version 7.30). The version 8 BIOSes apparently have better memory compatibility. But the M-Flash does not recognize the version 8 bios. I know i can "trick" M-Flash into seeing it by renaming it to A7522IMS.7XX since the bios looks for a version 7, but i have a feeling I'll end up with a paperweight if I do this.

My Question: (finally, I know, I'm sorry)
Has anyone successfully flashed a version 8 bios to the original X58 Pro mobo?
