It's terrible! Back in the day we had mouses which gave us no more than 1.2mm lift-off distance. My Deathadder gave me up to 4.8mm--the half centimeter you're reporting. The bar for lift-off distance has really been lowered though. Plenty of current mouses break 4.0mm.

I'm not exactly sure but I think there's a trade off between maximum perfect control speed and lift-off distance.

Maybe I'm not "hardcore" enough, but I don't see the big deal with having to lift my mouse half a centimeter. I game at around 900DPI, and I've never noticed any problem with lift-off. If the mouse was heavy, maybe I'd understand, but it's not. For the record, I've also used the MX518, G5, and the Diamondback. I've not noticed any difference with liftoff.

ok ok 2 more questions... is this tape trick and lift off issue unique to the "new" deathadders? I have two ORIGINALS.

Also wouldn't putting tape over the sensor cause it to, you know, NOT sense things well?

I don't know. Putting scotch tape over my DA messed up its tracking on my wooden desk, but never on my mouse pad.

You guys and your silly 3.5G sensors

I've got the original 1800 DPI DA, so I can't comment about the lift off distance, although I've never had an issue.

I do agree that choosing a mouse is 90% preference, so see if you can try it out before you buy it. Still, I've been using mine for 4 years now and I absolutely love it. Most comfortable mouse I've used (palm grip here) and the mouse buttons all have a very good and solid feel to them.

The middle plastic of the DA does drag around and scratch, but that can be solved by placing a piece of teflon right above the sensor, so no issues there.

1800 DPI lift off still sucks with cloth pads. Had they stuck with a red LED, nobody would be complaining.

Excuse the sloppy solder burns. :/

Yes it's a shame how they've been through 6 revisions now on both mice and still haven't fixed this.

Perfection is directly in front of Razer's reach, yet they don't want to accept it.

They probably see the whole "UV" thing as a marketing point. Who cares what color it is, it's on the bottom of the mouse anyway. Just make it work right.
