[USA Today] Reputation of Playstation Takes Pounding - Page 2

Well, as a PS3 gamer for years, I am sort of moving to PC. Really a shame what has happened at sony. I hope that they don't end up dead after this ordeal is over. I have heard it may be until the end of May until the PSN is back online. Until then, I'll just play on steam.

The XBL outage was not because of outdated servers/no firewall/little maintenance, itwas because their servers were overloaded and weren't expecting so any people to be on. And no, every network does not lack security.

The thing is. It is the users fault if they put their personal info onto the PSN. You do not need to add your creditcard info. There are such thing as PSN cards just like MS points cards. A perfect alternative than adding your creditcard info. He had every right to say that to the people. As an avid PSN user myself I was doing research for PSP games when it went down. I was pissed then I said "I'll wait. I'll just play on my PC, Wii and PS3 SP/Local play in the meantime. It's not heartbreaking. For those who are still pissed I feel sorry for that they need anger management classes. XBL got hacked and is getting hacked again (threat detected), Facebook got hacked... the security is outdated.

This is a sensitive subject, the haters and fanboys need to shut up.

Sony is a multi-billion dollar company, it will take much more than a PSN outage to take the company under.

I would think the outage is hurting Sony in the short term, but how much money could they really be losing at this point?

Unless you want to count money that they could be potentially making now if the PSN was working as lost income.

So because of ~5 million people it got overloaded that easily? Yeah, I don't believe it. Hell there are only ~13mil XBLG members now. It's a very small service TBH here. 7 of the XBL accounts are mine....

Hmm. Sony is promising everyone on the PSN a 1 month PSN+ membership, free game and I believe a little more. I honestly do not think Sony's income didn't slow down that much. They are a big company. They will heal and move on. Before the outage PSN averaged ~20 mil active users. I doubt many of them will go away. They may take a break but most likely they will come back. Those who don't most likely could be the kids that need to stay on XBL.

Sony may need to give more than 1 month of PS +. Us paying customers are going to get nothing unlike the folks that don't pay for PS+. It's already been 3 weeks - that's 3 weeks of paid PSN + time gone - so 1 free month won't do the job.

You are wrong. Sony did not follow basic principals of user information storage nor networking nor security.

Sony DBAs and SAs are idiots in what they did.

They stored data in clear text, hashed without salting, no firewall, did not patch severs....
Once again...
