Internet dosen't work unless system is restored.

Thread Starter
I'm having a very weird problem. Everything has been working fine since I built this system last year, however for the last week or so i've been having this problem.

Basically, whenever I turn my computer on after being off for the night it tells me that my internet is disconnected and I can't access the internet. (internet is fully connected so i'm not sure why it says this.) Restoring my PC back to an earlier day always fixes this. I mean, it dosen't bother me that much, but having to restore my system every day to access the internet kinda bugs me.

i've tryed fully restarting my modem, and it still didn't work unless it's restored.

i'm using a Asus P6T motherboard, with Shaw Internet.

Any possible ideas on how to fix this?

thanks

Ok this post is making a lot of assumptions. Like for one you are using windows. If this is the case is your network card showing as not installed in device manager?. Have you tried using ipconfig /all from the command prompt what does it show? Can you ping your default gateway or is your network dead totally? Have you checked to see if there is an update for your network driver? Have you updated your network driver recently maybe need to roll back to a previous version.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit. I have been using the same network driver for almost a year now with no problems, it hasn't been updated from the asus website for almost 2 years now.

I have taken two pictures to try and show you what i'm talking about.

First picture is when I turn the computer on after being off for the night. No internet connection whatsoever, but my internet is working.

Second picture is after I reboot/ restore my computer, everything goes back to normal.

Is Windows updating the ethernet driver through (automatic) Windows Updates without your knowledge? Sometimes it's set to update at a really late hour, it could be messing up the functionality of the connection. Just a thought.

Have you recently changed any firewall settings, antivirus settings, your startup programs or services etc?

Check driver revision dates before and after the restore as well as running system processes. Check startup processes and services. Something additional is/was changed which is what's fixing it by restoring it. Have you been testing in safe mode?

I'm assuming you've tried the basic release and renewing of your IP?

Can you look in device manager when you first start up and your network is broken from the look of the ipconfig it looks like it is not seeing your network adapter at all. Device manager should show if you have one installed on your system after reboot. If not try doing a scan for hardware changes and see if it detects it.

"reboot/ restore my computer" Do you mean that you are just restarting the computer, or do you mean that you have to do an actual system restore?

It sounds like either your NIC drivers are flaking out, or the network stack in your Windows install is flaking out. Have you tried reinstalling your NIC drivers?
