Triple Monitor Conundrum

Ok this is the mess:

System in question right now has an nVidia 210 and a double monitor setup with a third monitor operating via USB adapter, which has a noticeably slower response time than the other two understandably. We want to run all 3 off one card or at least all 3 with no lag. Main application is not gaming, but heavy data transfers for real-time stock research using custom software across 3 monitors simultaneously, continuously.

I was thinking of getting the 6870 which I think would be more than enough for this situation. I already have an active DP-DVI adapter sitting here. Then I find out that Eyefinity needs Windows Vista or 7 to run. This PC has Windows XP still, and not sure if this custom stock software will support 7 without some major upgrade cost.

So I need options here...
- Add some cheapo PCI video card I had sitting around for almost a decade for the third monitor (or get a more modern PCI card)?
- Check to see if the mobo has an extra PCI-e slot even if its not x16 and add another PCI-e card?
- Ask the vendor if the custom software will work with Windows 7 (*shudder*) and deal with that and then get the 6870?

....or another option? Thanks in advance.....

Why not try swapping in a different hard drive and install Win7 or Vista on the hardware. If it doesn't work, swap the original drive back in and VOILA! back to the old system without any issues. smile.gif

Look into windows 7 pro or ultimate with xp mode. It may run your software just fine. However, i'm not sure if eyefinity is an option in that mode or not.

You can still Run 3 screens in XP. Just not in Eyefinity. If its a Application like CAD or anything else that runs in a window than you can simply drag the window to fill up alll screens.

If you use Windows 7 Pro, It comes with "XP mode" and thats ment to run older programs that only run on XP normaly.

Ya I dont NEED to run eyefinity since this is just for a stock app, no gaming, etc... so then what does that mean for me? Whats the best option?
For performance getting the 6870 would be better... However since its just a stock app you dont need much power and a cheeper eyefinity card would work just fine as well.

However if money is a issue than getting another PCI-E card to run the 3rd screen would also work fine. However with older XP and Vista systems you can not mix AMD and nvidia cards.

Are you currently running in a Extended desktop or a Span?

I am just extending desktop space so he can have 3-4 windows open at once for his real-time stock research. Ya i have to find out if this microATX has another PCI-e, i doubt it.... or else I'll try a PCI card.

I tried the Sapphire 5450, didnt work with my active DP-DVI adapter, not sure why... could only get a max of 2 displays working.
