Maybe you need to check your adapter because if it doesn't work it won't help you if you keep switching cards right?

If you just need to run 3 screens, buy another graphics card (try to match them, you don't really want to run nvidia cards with ati cards) and hook the third monitor up to that. You don't need eyefinity to run three monitors.

What kind of active adaptor do you have? the old one are USB powered. I have one and it works. The newer ones dont need a USB port.

Hmmm, the guy said he ran 3 monitors with that adapter before so I just trusted that the adapter is fine... would he really have lied about that, hmmm...

Anyways as of now it does seem like the simplest solution is to get another nvidia card.... do they even make any for PCI slots anymore?

The adapter is a straight DVI to DP... etched on one side is "ACTIVE".. no USB anything.

I had one like that and it worked fine for a long time than Died on me. When you used it did it detect the display in CCC or windows at all?

Win7 Pro/Ultimate has an XP mode that should (90%+ probability) run your custom software. Plus any ATi card over a 5770 has easily enough power to run 3 displays with applications, you don't need as much power as the 6870 for that, only for gaming.

Edit: Sounds like your old adapter has died, you'll need a replacement to run 3 on a single ATi/AMD card.

Ya I know but knowing him, for $50 or so difference he would want the 6 series... and I tend to agree with him in that I dont him blaming the card if anything else goes wrong or slow, know what I mean? Its his money! I just want it to work without spending hours trying to set it up.

Here's the one I use, should say Accel on it. Mine is miniDP, but you use regular DP.

The least expensive way for you would be to use that PCI card that you have running around for ages. Even better if it uses the same drivers as the one on your main cards. As you previously mentioned this is not for gaming so it should do what you need fine. Keep in mind that the new browsers now support hardware acceleration from your GPU so the better they are the better they will perform. But for now, plop in that video card and see how it runs. It won't cost you anything but time.

This is the one i used.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814999030

Anyways. Get him the card he wants than, He can play a mean game of Spider Solitare. lol.

And since he is going to want multiable displays open than Eyefinity is not really gonna be needed and chances are he is going to want a Extended Desktop anyways.

What kinda processor and how much ram does he have anyways? If you are worried about slowing it down than that needs to be looked at also.

Heh and chances are to power a higer end card he is gonna need a powersuply upgrade also.
