Try comparing products in the same "category" please.

A Ferrari will always be more expensive then a Pinto.
When is a Pinto faster than a Ferrari?

they do it to provide an alternative product with certain 'features' free (the accelero cooler)

but you know what I mean. You are purposefully nitpicking everything I say in order to create an argument for the sake of one

Im in the market for a 3gb 580, but probably the air cooled version and I'll buy my own EK block for it.

No, I'm saying that even 2GB isn't enough for 12.2M pixels.

Smart move. Saves money and better performance

The more alternative products the better. Whether its a free accelero xtreme, more VRAM, better VRM's, Twin FrozrII it doesn't matter.

The more options the consumer has, the more power to the consumer.

I was making the assumption you were comparing cards to cards thus, my analogy comparing cars to cars.

It's not LOL OMG THEY'RE THE SAME PRICE LULZ.

That's ignorant.

I say it again, air to air and water to water, there is a significant difference.

And should be compared as such.

Comparing the price of air to a water block is not remotely logical at all.

It should not be called FTW version since it's a downclocked version from the original FTW 1.5GB version.

He is saying that cards from EVGA branded with the "FTW" logo should offer more than what you get with this card. In other words, it should be a non-reference design with more memory, better VRM's, binned to find the best chips etc.

But currently all they are doing is getting a GTX 580 3GB and slapping a Swiftech wb on it and branding it as "FTW" when the only difference between it and any other 3GB model is the waterblock. And anyone can buy a non-FTW 3GB card and put their own wb on the card for less than EVGA are charging.

I believe that is what goldboy is trying to say.

Now on topic, too late and too expensive. I've never seen the point in the FTW cards. You're better off getting a non-FTW EVGA card and then getting your own EK or Koolance block. It's cheaper, doesn't void the warranty and performs better than the Swiftech block on the FTW cards.
Agreed! Rep+

The EVGA card is overpriced. Actually, both the stock cooler 3GB launched last week and this one are overpriced. I didn't read a single thing about these cards featuring better than reference design components, so the price difference is a bit exaggerated, even for a lifetime warranty. IMO they are just making money off of their boutique image.

Here is the Zotac 3GB model for $539.99
