Am I SOL outside of going water? - Page 2

The yates are crap imho. I do have the ones from jabtech but I am pretty sure that there would not be a huge difference in cooling performance between the two. The fan I have on my A50 does a much better job keeping my rig cool. Its the Akasa Viper

I consider high speed yates from like jabtech to similar to be one of the best 120s around for the price range. Most other fans annoying me sound wise between 1k-1400 rpms, but the yates dont bother me at all. Plus they move ALOT of air.

sounds like airflow in your case to me, all the fans in the world arent going to combat bad airflow and horrible ambients, the combination of the two is a killer.

Negative pressure in your case (more exhaust) is better than going OD on intake fans. ideally you want the same in and out, but exhausting hot air from GPUs can have drastic affects in your cases internal temp.

Agreed,I have a YL 140mm on the side panel, and 2 120mm intakes on the bottom.I have 2 140mm NZXT top exhaust, and 1 120mm rear exhaust. The YL fan is not the quietest fan,but it's tolerable and it moves alot of air.The NZXT's are quieter, yet move an ok amount, perfect for exhausts.

Well P183 isn't exactly the best airflow case, I'm not arguing that. The biggest source of heat in my case is my 9800GT, which I'm replacing in a few days with a second 460. That alone should help, but I would still like to explore the different fans option.

Without the 9800GT folding, I average about 50C with AC and 57C without for folding, so the temps are much lower.

You have a different CPU! You can't make this type of comparison with different CPU's.

OP, have you considered using fan shrouds? I've seen a few posts around here saying they improve temps a bit, but I've never looked into it much more than that.

How about lapping? That is something else you could do to drop a few more degrees.

Have you turned down your PLL voltage? I think I remember a thread claiming you could significantly lower your temps by undervolting the PLL without hurting stability.

My PLL Voltage is already dropped from 1.832 to 1.709, and I didn't find dropping it to yield a significant drop, maybe 1C?

Sorry to necro my own thread but I messaged Petra's around a week ago, they still haven't gotten back to me concerning when they will restock their Yates.

Now I'm looking at alternatives that I can get in Hong Kong:

CoolerMaster R4
Deep Cool
Gelid Wing
Noctua
Scythe (S-Flex, Slipstream, Ultrakaze)
Sunon Maglev 2200/3100 rpm variants. I actually have both on hand, the 3100 RPM one is way loud but moves a crap ton of air.
Thermalright TR-FDB series
Xigmatek XLF
Zalman F3 LED

As previously advised, I would most likely be looking for negative air flow (exhaust heavy)

My current thinking is to keep 2 of my D12SM as intake, and replacing the 2 exhaust, as well as the two CPU cooler fans with something from the above list. This should be the best approach right?
