5770 Crossfire - Upgrade?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I currently have 5770 Crossfire running in my sig rig. What upgrade path is best bang for buck? and would fit nicely with my PSU and hardware.

Budget I would think about £200 as I have £130 in PP funds and Im currently selling some hardware and can sell the 5770s also.

Samsung 22" 1680x1050 Display.

I don't need to have Crossfire in my new setup, just what's going to give me the best boost!!

Cheers

Not sure what prices are like there but 6950 would be a nice match up for crossfire 5770's (5870 is basically the exact match for them)- a 6870 would be slightly weaker but almost there in a single card format.

Nonreference GTX570 or a reference 6950 2gb which could unlock to a 6970 via bios flash.

Either of those choices would be an upgrade to your crossfire 5770s.

I would stay clear of reference 570s because of the vrm power phase fiasco where the cards would be short lived with any small OC.

As for the 6950, even if it didn't unlock to a 6970, you'd still have a power house of a card that OCs great.

The 6950 should be cheaper than a 570, but I'd spend a touch more for the 570. I had one before and it's a great fast card that almost plays anything @ 1900x1200 maxed for 60fps, so @ your rez, you will be seeing great FPS.

Your minimum FPS will be higher too due to a single card application, so going for this upgrade is the way to go.

Goodluck

Thanks guys... Well there is a reference MSI 6950 2GB for £210 delivered from OCUK. Not going to buy from OCUK, but that was the only card I could find that stated it was a reference board.

I'd try to save up a little more cash and get a high resolution display first, but that's just me personally.

It's an old monitor now but does the job nicely... Visually games still look great on my rig even with a resolution of 1680x1050.
