theres a difference between quality and hype. And as an ex fanatic of activision I can tell u that ever since cod4 its all been downhill.

I can see what they have played on Steam in the last 2 weeks. Since I'm on Steam nearly every day, i haven't seen them play a COD game for the last couple of months.

In fact, in the first 3 months MW2 was released the peak user count per day for the number of users playing MW2 was ~100k. 6 months later it dwindled to 40k. Shows people have lost interest in the game considering such a significant drop.

More importantly take a look at recent statistics: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ The peak number of players for MW2 is more than Black Ops. During weekends, the figures are more or less even. But wouldn't it be logical that a new release would have more users playing it? Indicating that people are generally getting bored of COD. I'm not saying people are 100% but the figures do support it.

You find these sorts of features in dlc's. So essentially you're proving my point by admitting it. The game doesn't offer anything dramatically new. If you played COD 4, you've played them all.

maybe you're just so used to the easy mode that you've become accustomed to in COD games. Personally, I can win the whole match solely on my own in a team game mode. That in itself is stupid... whats the point of having team game modes if you can win the game just by dominating on your own.

If you haven't noticed that you've bought the same game every time its clear you have no understanding of finesse or quality of a game. Just to give you a visual analogy with COD and BF:

COD series =

BF series =
You do realize that the entire genre is about as samey as you can get, right?

Boil it down, what are you getting?

COD: Meh at best SP about US Marines trudging about in desert/jungle environments. MP brings you to a deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and free-for-all modes, again in the same desert/jungle environments.

BF: Meh at best SP about Marines(Hey, look, they're not always US marines, HUGE DIFFERENCE! /sarcasm) trudging about in desert/jungle environments. MP brings you to a deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and free-for-all modes, again in the same desert/jungle environments.

When you boil it down Battlefield and Call of Duty are both the same damn game. I honestly don't see why people defend one from the other when they're both crap. But that's just my observations on it, if you need me I'll be in the Mojave Wasteland.

What story? What I played was an interactive version of a Jean Claude Van Damme movie. Absolutely no substance, things explode every few seconds, and it loses it's charm about five seconds after it ends.

No Russian was fun though.

You won't find quality in a genre that strives to focus on the same competitive deathmatch every other game in the genre is stuck to.

because unlike you most of the people play CoD or BF for the multiplayer. There are better SP experiences out there and most of the CoD and BF players know it.

OCN's old axiom proven once again.
"if you make the game good, they will buy it. "[1]

call of duty is an extremely good series proven by sales.

there is a fine line between extremely good and extremely popular. Call of duty is popular because it made a name for itself long ago. The fact of the matter is they are using the pre-dis positioned popularity to squeeze more money out of an already over hyped and over rated series. it will take people a long time but they will eventually get tired of it and move on to a different game. Why do you think infinity ward wanted modern warfare 3 to be their own game? if you took a call of duty game and put it up against infinity wards modern warfare, people would probably choose modern warfare. you buy what you know and everyone knows call of duty.

I don't think it is so fine.

Something really good will develop a community around it sans million dollar advertising campaigns, such as Minecraft (purely for example). Something really popular is made so by advertising it as good, regardless of the truth behind the experience.

So many people are SO susceptible to advertising that in reality, what is popular is able to be dictated by advertising, not the content of the product. If people are conditioned to respond to advertising, and buy the product, the quality of the product becomes a moot point.

Popular != relative quality

I would have thought this would be painfully obvious in analyzing pop culture.

I'm pretty burnt out on the Call of Duty series. It feels like nothing has changed since MW, just the locations and time period. Not to say that I haven't gotten my money's worth from each CoD I've ever purchased, but I think Black Ops will be my last CoD for a while unless they do something revolutionary which I highly doubt will happen. BF3 will be getting all of my attention this year.

Activision's guitar hero has gone downhill ever since, starting with Guitar Hero 3.. and getting increasely worse from there.

Rock Band ended up killing Guitar Hero sales. You can export the songs from Rock Band 1, Rock Band 2, Rock Band: Green Day, etc into Rock Band 3. They also release 5+ songs a week that you can purchase and download. They added Pro Guitar, Pro Bass, Pro Drums, and Pro Keyboard which allows you to play with real instruments and is exactly like playing the real thing. My friend with 10 year guitar experience, who has never played this genre was playing expert pro guitar in a matter of hours. They also allow fans to create their own DLC from their bands or bands they own licenses to (assuming you have the money to buy their software).

It's not a fad, people have just gone to Rock Band. I currently have 1463 songs in my game, why would I ever want to buy a GH game with 80 songs, and no export features into the new games? Activision doesn't care what fans want, and that's why they are losing business.

TL:TR - Activision fails, doesn't listen to anything anyone says, when they lose money they blame it on piracy. I really hope they die off soon to leave more room for the better companies.
Activision didn't ever own Harmonix and they've been around since before Guitar Hero was even thought of. RedOctane came up with the idea for Guitar Hero and went to Harmonix to develop it, then they got Activision to publish it. After that, Activision bought RedOctane (and the license) and handed the development to NeverSoft. Harmonix was bought by MTV and came up with the Rock Band series.

Why do people complain when Activision continues to milk the CoD series? Just about everyone would do the same if they were making a profit on it. If you deny it, you're lying. Everything in this world is about money. just accept that and get over it.
