6950 crossfire overheating - Page 2

Do you by any chance have a side fan pointed at them? With cards sandwiched like that, you do not have any choice but to deal with high temps. A side fan will help tremendously. My buddy had GTX 560 ti on SLI and they were sandwiched together. His top card shoots up to 100% fan and temps shoots upwards of 90c. I let him borrow my huge 230mm top fan (since I am using water cooling) and he put it as a side fan. He also put a 120mm at the bottom of the case (he has a HAF 922). After that, his top card reaches about 70ish while his bottom is about 65.

so i was playing yesterday for about 3-4 hours and the temp was 77 max. Fan speed was 50%(cuz after the 50% the noise is annoing). is this ok for the card to stay so high for so much time?
Yes, that is fine. Although my AMD cards are watercooled, my 9800GTX+ was at tethering at 80c for full 10 days when it was squealing for OCN while folding.

hey guys - 1st post for me... to op - i got the 2 xfx 6950 1gb in crossfire and temps were unbearable (idling round mid 50s, load reaching bout 70) got the accelero plus for both cards. installed while waiting for heatsink vr001 order to arrive. top card idles mid 40s now with fans at max. gaming load reaches upper 5os. quiet fans btw. heatsink package arrived a few days ago so am in the process of installing those to see if i can get some lower temps. crossing my fingers. i'll post temps and pics when finished. also i got the 100mm bridge so i could put a little more space between the cards. good luck with your quest for a cooler machine.

ok i got my HD 6950 now.. but i got a problem.

At idle, my first card is running at like 58c idle and the botom one is 38c.... Both are same xfx HD 6950 2GB single fan. Their is1 slot space between them. I got a cooler master megaflow 200m as intake in my 650D. So the airflow isn't a problem.

I tried both card alone and one of the ( the previous top one with 2 display connected) was running 53c idle. The other one is running 49c idle with both displays.

i know 20c idle temp difference isn't normal. so what should i do? RMA the hotter card?

Is that in crossfire or by themselfs, because if its when they are in crossfire it will be because the top card is getting heat off the bottom card with restricted airflow too because its close up to the bottom one, if your wanting crossfire and want to overclock i would highly suggest getting a big ass radiator and going with water cooling.. trust me you will never look back, its pretty much silent with the right fans and cools soo much better than the ****ty stock fans you get on GFX cards which sound like jets.

Oh and btw GFX cards are a bit different to CPU's when it comes to heat, they can run fine at 100C but obviously its not recommended, i would be trying to keep them under 70-80 but you could expect under 40C with water cooling under load easily.

the top one is 20c hotter than tha bottom one with 1 slot space between them. so yeah crossfire. also the top card has 2 display connected. I know it msut be hotter but 20c.. holy crap i never saw temp difference that high before on any setup, even sandwich crossfire/sli. AT idle, i didn't tried to load them at 99% while in cf because 60c at idle worry me a bit.
