Xfi Sound Cards and my mobo

Thread Starter
can a motherboard mess up a pcie x1 and a pcie sound card? the reason im asking is because when i had the xfi titanium pcie x1 it was working fine until i did dummy oc on my evga mobo and then it stopped working the next 2 days so i got a simple pci sound card the xtreme music gold plated and it worked the first day then turned off at night next morning i turn on my pc and it stopped working.
windows7 ulti. 64bit detects the card in the control panel the audio bar is going up and down , it says theirs no problem but no audio is coming from headphones or speakers. and yes my headphones adn speakers work fine, and yes the sound card is set to deault playback device and the onboard audio is disabled

Do you have auto sensing jacks? If so are you getting the notification things are being plugged in?

Just trying to see where the problem could lie.

DO a complete driver clean (driver sweeper) and totally reinstall audio drivers.

See where that gets you.

Oooooh .. Not looking good.

I mean if you did a reinstall of your OS that pretty much rules out software issues.
You're trying speakers and head phones isolated from each other? For instance I have a headphone jack on my logitech speakers. You tried your headphones directly plugged into your pc ? (back .. not the front ports just in case thats your problem)

Try a different slot and set your bios back to defaults.

Good idea,

I honestly have never used a PCI-e sound card yet, I wonder if possibly bumping up the PCIe bus in the BIOS could have screwed with that.

Make sure you disabled On board audio, update your bios (a re-flash might help if you are in the latest bios), try changing the pci-e slot and try different drivers. Post back after ruling all of this out. Good luck

PS: About PCI-e overclock if you did anything in 100 to 120MHz there is no problem more then that you might have damaged your card if so try to RMA it
