i7 920 - vDroop on load/temps a little high

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
Hi.

I've been noticing some high temps on my i7 recentley (I had it @ 2.8 for some odd reason, auto voltage (1.28~), and it shutdown a few times when rendering.) I'm pretty sure I need to reseat the CPU waterblock. Anyhow;

I went into the BIOS, put it to bog stock (2.66GHz), and 1.1v. I seem to get a small (0.3) vdroop when idle;

but when primed (blend) it's almost 0.5v!

Why is this? I've heard LLC can cause this?

Everything is stock, (apart from the 1.1VC I set). All the power saving things are on. Don't suggest to me that I need to overclock, because I have no interest in it.

Thanks.

There is usually some vdroop, even with LLC enabled (just less). It helps protect the chip from the voltage spikes that occur between idle & load if running it close to the maximum voltages.
As for temps, have you blown the dust out of the rad recently, or opened up the block to see if you are getting some gunk build up? Or maybe even just the ambient temps warming up?
