Downloading the Rift trial.

Anyone else play Rift that wouldn't mind sharing their opinion? I'm just looking for a break from WoW again. I've taken two breaks so far, once towards the middle of WoTLK and one again now. The game is just boring at the moment. My guild cleared all of the regular content, we got our ZA bears and I believe our main tank has quit since he hasn't logged on in about two weeks. Because of that, we're pretty much just constantly doing old content we've cleared like three to five weeks ago, and I have no interest in that anymore. I never ever log on unless it's to raid, and we only raid three days a week since we're nothing more than a casual guild of friends who've known each other for the past four or so years.

Friend of mine canceled his WoW subscrip to take a break and go to Rift for a bit and sent me a referral. He said it's a really nice break and the game relates greatly in a lot of ways and it'll probably have him hooked for some time. I was reading tons of reviews for about on hour on Gamespot, and from what I've gathered it falls into these two TL;DR opinons.

A) It relates to WoW in a lot of ways, however it gets very repetitive and boring.

B) It relates to WoW in a lot of ways, and should keep you entertained for quite some time or until future content is released.

Overall, I'm excited to give it a shot. The worst that can happen is I play it for a few months and get bored. Or I can really like it.

I have played just about every mmo since the release of DAOC (2001) and to be honest I am just burnt the hell out on that genre. I however still have a bad habit of torturing myself and buying and trying all these new mmo's only to play for like a week and realize it's the same thing as the last game I played with maybe some new music, different graphics, etc.

Hate to be a debbie downer just the way I feel and I can tell you might be in a similar place. I do have to say I work with alot of people who do play RIFT but they are relatively new to MMO's so they do not have the burnout effect going on either.

Just my .2 sorry if the glass was half empty lol.

Nah, I don't care, I'm just looking for opinions no matter what they are. I'm pretty tired of MMOs as well. I figured since I am getting really tired of WoW again I might as well just give the Rift referral trial a shot since I won't be paying anything.

I did play Rift for a little bit, it is literally almost a clone of WoW and some other games mixed in. They did it very good. However if you are burnt on WoW you will eventually get burnt on this too... nothing really new or revolutionary they just took the systems out of other games that worked and put them into one game.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. A lot of reviews mentioned that too. And to be honest, that's fine by me. I'm just looking for something to keep me busy for awhile besides League of Legends. Because when I end up playing too much League of Legends then I have no other game to fall back on rather than Bad Company 2.

Yea I am sure if you liked WoW you will like this... I just realized that we have almost identical systems... you liking the hyper threading on that 2600k?

I got bored of it and went back to WoW after a month, much like any other MMO that I've tried. Except LOTRO, that got me for a good 6 months.

Comparing it to WoW, I personally like RIFT better. I think you'll like it.

Haha, we really do almost have the same rig tongue.gif

I don't know man, this is one of the best investments I've ever made regarding this hobby so far. I bought everything with such fear that it wouldn't be as noticeably fast as my old X3 rig but it doesn't even compare. Every time I go on any other computer I just dread it horribly.

I'm spoiled tongue.gif

There is northing wrong with Rift. It's 'okay'. About as good as WoW minus the content amount, obviously, it's a new game. Nicer graphics, but nothing ground breaking. I think that's a good entertainment for a change, but it has nothing tremendously better than WoW that will totally hook you up. Basically, worth playing until you run out of content, then you'll have to see which game you're hooked up to more.

TL;DR: all MMOs kind of suck at the moment...
