With all due respect, there most certainly can be. The fact that the game only uses two cores makes it MORE possible, not less. In fact, it can start to CPU BN w/o even using all the resources of two cores. I'm not saying that's what it IS in this case, but it makes sense to try to rule it out. Whenever GPU usage is low like this, in a game that does make high CPU demands, it's worth considering/looking into CPU BN pretty early in the troubleshooting process.

@OP thanks for posting the screenie. It looks like you're maxing out around 40% CPU there. Probably NOT a CPU BN in effect here, but I'll do some tests on my machine to see where my CPU usage taps out when I create a CPU BN'd situation using Warhead and get back to you w/my assessment.

BTW, do you not know how to make a screenshot directly from your screen, i.e. w/o having to use a camera?

IF someone else could just play through that same section as he's talking about with a similar rig, using the same settings, and report on their GPU usage and FPS it would certainly HELP

I'd play through that game section for you but I don't have a save file ... I'd have to play through the whole game to get there and don't have time to do it.

i also get around 40% usage both cards around the last boss area

3.6ghz, gtx 470's overclocked to 760core, mem stock, 1.000v

fps will drop mad crazy at that part,

cutscenes i'll average around 80-90fps 80-93%usage

in game , jungle areas i'll get around 60ish fps 70-82%usage

max everything ,except no AA

if the game isn't optimized for more than 2 cores, than clock speed should be the main deterrent right? i.e. a core i3@ 4ghz, will do better than an i7@ 3.5ghz , not sandy bridge for clarification

haha i think thats a common problems in last missison , cuz if i play another mission without any heavy combat , my gpu usage can up to over 80% , especially i move alone , i just think this game doesnt optimize consistent sli gpu usage.... but with single gpu its always stay 99% all the time

trying to check ur gpu usage in last mission , cuz i have been claim i ony got around 60%-70% gpu usage against boss , u will notice fps will instanly drop faster in last mission , and also with other mission , u will see inconsistent gpu usage too , not always 90% utilize

I know it's frustrating to get low FPS AND see your GPU's at 60% but as long as other's are experiencing the same thing in the same part of the game, you can be pretty certain it's not a problem w/your machine. It's just SOMETHING, somewhere in your system, is bottlenecking the GPU core itself, because that is where the GPU usage is calculated from.

And what it is could be a lot of things: excessive texture swapping, memory bus could be saturated, vram is at capacity, or it could really just be a straight-up CPU bottleneck, even at only 40% total usage.

Who knows, maybe in this ONE gaming scenario, the PCI-Ex bandwidth can even be getting tapped out, and no-one ever noticed because there's no benchmark that uses that level.

And, it could just be a driver coding issue with this part of this game, too. Maybe bad coding is causing a flood of cache misses. Maybe too many threads are being generated simultaneously, and the thread scheduler is getting backed up.

So many possibilities, really.

At least if you're not the only one, you should be able to accept it and move on. You are NOT always gonig to get 99% gpu usage, even on the toughest graphical parts.

You might try some lowering some settings if it's unplayable ... 4xAA instead of 16xAA ... it just might help

Yeah, these are various known issues with only Crysis and particular monitors/TV's where it ranges from the refresh rate of 24 HZ back to the normal 60 HZ... Seems to only happen on certain TV's. My recommendation is to plug in using the VGA instead of HDMI.... Might not sound good with an analog connection, but I personally prefer it and like not having all that extra digital "enhancements..."

When I press Alt+Enter in Crysis, it works as a toggle between full screen and windowed mode.

Actually, it seems Alt+Enter is more of a universal toggle for that.
