Sold windows XP on eBay and buyer is having problems - Page 2

He's going to have to send it back to you and you need to refund his money.

That copy is now tied to your computer...no other way.

OEM's are for one machine only.

You need to purchase a full version of windows 7 and if I'm correct you can indeed call Microsoft and activate windows XP over the phone(forsay if you were to move it to a different PC & explain to them that you are moving windows xp to a different PC and will no longer be using it on your current PC)

I don't know how that works, but I know I've moved my windows seven to a different PC this way when my old PC died due to a bad motherboard. Call microsoft =]

Edit** didn't see that it was an OEM version(if it is, you're sorta out of luck, OEM versions are tied to one computer and one only, if it was a full retail version then you can indeed change it to a different PC)

This could work! I will try and contact Microsoft and ask them about it today

Either send him a valid unsued key or a refund.

Yes I do believe xp can be upgraded to 7 IIRC.

OEM software has a chance of binding itself to the motherboard that it was installed on. For whatever reason I have several OEM disks that do not do this. Microsoft would not give me another activation key when I had to replace my 775 motherboard since "OEM software is a risk, you should have bought the full copy."

You can upgrade XP to windows 7 with an upgrade copy. No need to buy full retail. I recently bought a family upgrade pack that had three license for win 7 upgrade. I upgraded 3 of my computes from XP to win 7.

Replaced my motherboard when it died just recently with windows 7 and had no problem with my OEM disc. I searched around before i did this and did see mention of there being a grace of 3 motherboard changes. I also read that if you just do phone activation that should work as well.

I just wanted to point out what I said in another thread earlier, technically speaking none of the versions of Windows 7 allow you to an upgrade from XP to 7 while at the same time retaining all your installed programs from XP. They all do in one form or another a clean installation, which is also considered an "upgrade" but not the same way as let's say going from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium or 7 Ultimate.

Hope that clarifies things.
