55c on idle, 80c on 100% load?!

Hey,

Just installed new parts, mainly a new processor and a motherboard to go with it. Recently I just finished installing Windows 7, and made sure that everything was running on stable. Downloaded Realtemp, and i noticed that the temps are 50-55c on idle and 80c on 100% load:eek:! Well this is the first time I encountered or gave any attention to my pc temps, but not knowing if these temps are normal or toasty is giving me allot of stress right now. Please tell me, are these temps alright? Do i have to reseat the heatsink? BTW im running on a stock heatsink that came with the processor on the box thingie.

Specs are on my sig, feel free to inspect it if it has anything to do with my dilemma. Btw the GPU(gtx 275) is not plugged in because my psu is too low to run my gtx 275. So ignore the GPU on my sig biggrin.gif.

Seems typical for a stock heatsink. Plus it's summer, ambients are high.

Your idle temps do seem a little high. Check core temps in BIOS.

Does temps from BIOS differ from RealTemp? Is a temp of 80c on 100% load too hot? Well I usually play Bad Company 2 for like 4 hours straight and if the temps are 80c for 4 hours, are there going to be any bad effects?

Sounds to me like the heatsink might not be seated properly. I got the same thing but I average 34-36c at idle and at 100% I get MAYBE 65c.

Well i think thats one of the reasons. I was really confused when I was seating the heatsink, didnt knew if it was seated properly. Gonna reseat it later, I'll reply if it gave any significant changes on the temp.

Whoo didnt notice that you were using a q8300 too, did you use the thermal paste that came with the stock heatsink? Or did you put a better, aftermarket one?

I used the stock heatsink but swapped the paste for some arctic silver I had laying around. I saw like a 2c drop if that so not much.

What are your temps in BIOS
Are your ambient temps high? That doesn't seem right because I use that proc at work with the stock heatsink at that sucker idles at 30C with 76F ambient. Although it has good airflow, so check your airflow too. As for it running at 80's Celsius for hours...the processor will still work, it just might shorten the life slightly and i'm pretty sure Thermal Throttling starts kicking in at around that temperature so it might run a little slower

just reseat it with factory TIM. each of those pins must give you a click sound when you pushing them down.

WOAH! Temps actually went down! LOL! Reseated the heatsink, and made sure that every lock was pinned down. D*** these notorious intel heatsinks, gives me a scary feeling when Im forcing the heatsink in because I think the motherboard will crack or something. Haha its ok now. Went down to a constant 35-40c on idle and 55-60c on 100% load. Thanks for the replies everyone!
