ok i removed the old factory heat paste as i dusted my fan blades and cleaned the case and i want to know how much paste to remove help me i used a peaish amount and used a walgreens card to spread it but i think its too much and the paste is arctic silver 5 got it at radioshack. should i just take off the heat sink and clean that off or do it all again.

im going from 69f or 67f on factory paste to now 84f to 94f in a second and back and forth. please help
im so new to this paste stuff as i have a friend do it as he has been doing it for years but he is out of town

Ok, ok, slow down buddy

Get some rubbing alcohol and a non-paper cloth or something, preferably a cotton rag. Get a piece of the rag wet and thoroughly clean off all the thermal paste from both the CPU and the heatsink. Make sure there is NO thermal paste left on either. Then take your Arctic silver 5 and put a small dab the size of a grain of rice in the very middle of the cpu. You can use more if you want, just be sure not to let it drip over the sides when the heatsink is installed. Plop the heatsink straight down on top of the cpu and tighten it down. Boot up and check your temps, remember to plug the cpu fan in.

Try just leaving it without spreading, 99% sure that's your problem right there.
