New Laptop Help Now - Page 4

Hmm, I see. I mean with my POS right now, I dream of going places like Starbucks or when I'm on the go, to game with a laptop. But with a 8 pound brick that is essentially the size of a 17.3" laptop, ehh no. I hope I'm not sound like a nagging *** to you.

Could you just possibly explain why the Gateway blows in terms of performance, not suggesting/basing it on customs? Help with this is strongly appreciated.

Well, the problem with the Gateway is that the hardware it has, even though it's a desktop, is just barely faster than the Sager I pointed out. So, it's a tiny bit faster, but then it's not mobile at all. That's why I said it'd be better to build one yourself if you wanted a desktop.

And yes, laptops built purely for gaming can be a pain in the ass. I have one, but at least it's not too impractical. There's no way I'm carrying around something as big as the G53 or G72, though. And then you're also tied to the power adapter since the battery life on them is only ~2-3 hours.

Dude, I'm tied to the AC right now. My crappy Dell gets 36 minutes on the high performance battery settings.

Yeah, doesn't mean you have to forever. Conforming with something is one of the worst things you can do in life.

I mean the difference I see between the Gateway and the Sager, is a small increase on performance and the ability to upgrade components in the future. I do like the bay feature on the Gateway though. I can just swap them out as I please.

But may I ask, would the Sager sound like an airplane? I mean the Xbox 360 sounds horrible when games run un-installed.

Yes, the Gateway will only net you a small increase in performance. At the same time, it means 100 compromises when it comes to the form factor.

As for the noise, the Sager has reasonable noise levels. In normal use you won't notice it at all but when you're doing gaming it's gonna ramp up, though obviously nowhere near the level of an Xbox 360.

The only portability demise I see with the Gateway is gaming and such out of the house. I can just get a WiFi printer but leaving the house with a desktop isn't possible. IDK, the Gateway just seems so simple.

It's extremely impractical and you're gonna get crappy performance compared to just buying the components and building it. Why wouldn't you get near the same performance while also being portable?

Whatever, though. It's your choice. However, I do feel you wasted my and everyone else's time. Could you change the OP if you're getting a desktop?

Sorry about that. A mod can close this if they want. Sager is still under strong consideration but why from Xotic?

Because XoticPC has lower prices than buying directly from Sager and they have better customer service.
