Should I play The Sims?

Thread Starter
I've never played any of The Sims games. Yet they're the best selling PC games of all time.

Are they worth even trying? Are there any mods or cheats for them that are any fun?

If so, which one should I buy/play?

Do you have a good social life? In which case, no, do not, you will be trapped, controlling virtual remakes of your friends.. building.. working.. grinding.. one moment it's 3 pm.. the next it's 7:39 and you're late for work .. :shudder:

Haha, I'd say to try out 2 and 3, I really liked 3, and there's TONS of mods. Just be careful it's very addicting.

That's sort of what I was afraid of (being time consuming). Are there any cheat codes that will say give you unlimited money (if the game even uses money) or whatnot so you can just spend your time futzing around doing whatever you feel like as opposed to managing resources?

Is user created content big? Or is it all expansions? I noticed there are about a bagillion and a half expansions.

Because there is a billion expansions for Sims 2 and 3.

I played both games. Two was better in it's hayday IMO. The Sims 3 gets kind of stale after you've maxed out everything for your character - which you can do easily in a couple days.

The one downfall both Sims 2 and 3 had is that the time moves too quickly, so you have little free time to do anything with your sims except to make sure they're fed, make sure their hygiene is good, and get them to work.

yeah the sims is really fun but can be time consuming. but every game can be time consuming so i say go for it. steam had a sale last week so you just missed out on that but i'd say go for the sims 3 deluxe.

From what I've experienced of the game (when the original came out) both the mod community and the DLC's are abundant and various so you don't have to worry about that, and a trainer can be found here and there to help you cheat your way out The only issue I have about the whole concept of sims is pretty much...if I hate doing choirs around the house in RL, why in the world would I bother do the same in a virtual environment?!

Some is big, some is small, there's a lot, just look around.

Yes, I believe the cheat is Motherlode, which will give you 50k, you can repeat it as many times as you want.

I do play The Sims 2 and 3 games alot and I really enjoy it. I just noticed that not alot of people here play this game but I remember making a thread about The Sims games but they said not alot of gamers here play it. I do play other games too but I really do like The Sims 2 and 3. It is a very popular game though since they even make forums just for The Sims games.

Right now is the best time to buy the expansion packs for The Sims 2 games since they are really cheap now. I haven't got any expansion packs for The Sims 3 since they are too expensive now.

Should you play the sims?

Do you have lots and lots of time to play a game that has to be redone atleast 10 times to get the feel of it?

Are you a girl?

Do you like lo rez games and poor AI that is not really life like?

Do you have a girlfriend or wife that wants to play a game with you?

Do you want to take away the toilet and see everybody freak out?

IF you answered yes to atleast 2 of these, you might enjoy the Sims.
