err no...
like I said my friend is selling me the cards
it is the reference version of 6950 2gb with dual - bios switch
and he's selling me it for 240 because it's been used

5870 for sure. They're both 40nm and are very similar architecturally. If you plan on keeping the card for 4 years, get the 6950 for better tessellation performance, but otherwise the 5870 is essentially identical performance wise.

If you think you can unlock it to a 6970, it might be worth the $70 extra cost.

My personal vote would be the 5870, but that's because cost to performance is important for me since I'm young and don't have much money.

Yea, the 6970 is so loud with speeds after 50%, anything after 40% and it becomes some what annoying, but playing games it doesn't interfere. Good ventilation should be able to keep the max fan speed needed for any game around 40-45%. But if I were you I would get a possible third party cooler, or a Vaper X model.

I would get the 6950, unlock if possible. Then Xfire in a year or two, they get amazing scaling.

Oh. Well, you didn't really make that clear in the OP. I'd still get the 5870.

why even ask? grab the 6950 of course!
If you plan on BF3 you'll need the tessellation of the 6950 but for a used card you should tell your 'friend' to solve his financial struggles some other way or take the hit of his poor investments and give you a 'used' discount. $275 exactly you'll pay from newegg and that's BEFORE the $25 rebate. Don't let him rip you off just because you feel sorry for him. ~.^

sorry nvm..i read that wrong

Umm, no. The 6950 uses the same RAM as the 5770, and the 6970 uses a much tighter RAM.

Get the 6950.

Because he didn't register the 5870, even he doesn't get the lifetime warranty. Only the 2 year warranty applies.
