my kinda budget amd build....

Thread Starter
if this is in the wrong place please feel free to move it.

crunstructive critism, comments, suggestions, are all welcome.

I had a budget of $1,000 and here is what i created for my first real build.

NZXT Black phantom case

MSI 890FXA-GD65 mother board

Radeon HD 5770 graphic card

16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3

AMD Phenom X2 6 core 1090 Black Edition CPU

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W

Still lacking HDD and OS.

Thinking about sticking this old HDD with vista in it until MS releases the next OS instead of jumping on Windows 7 this late in the game.

Soon plans include cutting a window in the panel

and

Future plans will be water cooling setup, Sheething all my cords, and UV light system

what u guys think, pretty stout build for $850?

That case really seems to add on a lot to the price.... otherwise it isn't that bad, mobo is an Am3+ expandable so that's a plus as the new processors are out in a month

Going AMD with this budget is an absolute waste. Tell me if you can consider going Intel instead.

What is the purpose of the system? Will you be overclocking?

I'm with LOL here, is Intel an option?

I don't think 16GB of RAM is really necessary. At the most all I'll ever need is 8GB. I wouldn't trust MSI motherboards so if you can find another brand like Gigabyte or Asus or even Biostar I would choose those instead. Also if you can go Intel I would definitely choose an Intel i5-2500K over the X6. I like your case though.

Probably could cut some cost by only getting 8Gb of ram. Not sure what you will be using the computer for but most people can get by with 4Gb -8Gb. I love the look of that case but the door to access you cd drives is a big turn off for me. I did see a Alienware case that was similar but had a motorized cd bay cover that moved vertically. Which I thought was pretty sweet.Save a little with less ram and invest in a better gpu maybe? Cases are a personal preferance, so nobody can really criticize that.

i agree that amount of ram is just a waste of money, may aswell drop it an get a better graphics card.
i also agree with this kind of budget unless theres fanboy issues (wont judge) i would strongly recommend going sandy bridge. or you could wait and get the new amd cpus coming out soon called bulldozer.
i also notice that no cpu cooler is listed so you will be using stock fans? i take it you wont be overclocking?

I agree with Ronin. Save a little with the RAM and look to get a better video card. I do like the look and features of the case, however, and was looking at that motherboard earlier as a possible replacement for mine.

I would say it depends on his needs. I have seen 16GB of RAM go for ridiculously cheap a lot lately; if he does something i.e. video editing that makes it worthwhile I say go for it. The build does have AM3+ expandability and the new processors are out in a month, so if he's looking for an alternate route to Intel I don't see any issue.
Might as well get a cheapo CPU if you're waiting for BD. Otherwise go Intel.
