Speed difference between Class 4 and Class 2 microsd

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
Here's the deal

Earlier this week, I saw a Sandisk 32GB MicroSDHC at Staples. It's a Class 4. Right now I have the class 2 of the Sandisk card I use for my LG Expo phone with all my music and some HD videos.

Will it make a difference for my phone if I have the Class 4 instead of the Class 2?

My SD Reader is a Sandisk USB mobilemate stick that came with a 2 GB microSD i bought 3 years ago

Class 2 means your stick can handle 2 MB/s while class 4 can handle 4 MB/s.

Here's a direct quote from wikipedia:

The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for SD Cards, defined by the SD Association. The Class number represents a multiple of 8 Mbits/s (1 MB/s), and meets the least sustained write speeds for a card in a fragmented state.[16]

These are the ratings of all currently available cards:[13][23]

* Class 2, 2 MB/s
* Class 4, 4 MB/s
* Class 6, 6 MB/s
* Class 10, 10 MB/s

Personally try and find the class 6 and higher. Big difference when I use them and I have a ton of huge pictures and videos in my smart phone and digicam. They load up faster and you can literally see the difference compared to the class 2 and 4 memsticks.
