PhysX on 9500gt - Page 6

This thread has become a puddle of dribble.

If there is anything worse that the ill-informed, it is the ill-informed who think that their right.

A bottleneck in computing terms is when a certain component has hit a ceiling and can perform no better causing a reduction in performance.

With physx on and the cpu doing it, the bottleneck will be the CPU.
With physx on and the 9500gt doing it, the bottleneck is the 9500gt.

Learn logic, the 9500gt will slow down the systemif it was a 480 would the fps still be that low? How can you possibly argue it isn't bottlenecked.

What difference does it make if the OP has a ATI cpu rather than nvidia, if the main cpu is not doing the physics?

It seems to me that what you are trying to say is that with a 9500gt he can play at 20fps rather than 10fps with physics on rather than the 100fps he gets now.
Turning physics on will effectively make his 6970 go to 20% usage. He will virtually turn his main card into the equivalent of a 4850.

Is it worth it? would you do it? Do you play at 16xAA at 20fps or 2xAA at 80fps (samething).

If you want physx get a 460 for the OPs card, a 9500gt is terrible idea, low yeilds, make your system slow, it is essentially a waste of the 6970.

There is no argument.

Look lets assume i did not read anything you guys said, i will just write what i know about PhysX,amd, nvidia.

I will use Mafia II as PhysX example. I do not have it installed right now so i will assume FPS.

It is first time i am playing Mafia II i set everything on ultra including physx with my sig rig (6970,1090t 4.2ghz) . As I am playing everything is fine. I remember the part where i get the Mingun and have to gun down this fatty. As i run into the building fire and shooting bursts out everything starts to lag and goes into slideshow. So we will assume ~5-10 fps.

I have disabled PhysX , though the drivers are still present, and i am getting stable 50-60 FPS. The game was lagging as PhysX was calculated on the CPU which was not "catching up".
Then we will assume I install 9500 gt as my PhysX drive and set my PhysX on ultra ( why would i have a rig like that if i cant run games on ultra, right?) I would assume the FPS will go up as GPUs perform faster/stronger compared to CPUs. So i get 30-40 FPS

Which is "okay" but why would i want to go down from "perfect" 60 FPS down to choppy 30-40?

As i see, right now 9500 GT would not be a viable PhysX card as it can not perform to give out FPS near/over PhysX Disabled FPS.

according to this an 9500gt would slow down a gtx 480/580/590 because they can calculate physx faster than 9500gt even if its offloaded

but since ATI cards cant do physx to begin with, some physx is better than none, so this should boost your performance

I dont see why a physx card would slow down his main card...

now the real question is do you want physx that much?

Ok, before I post what I'm going to post, I want you to know, that I was right.

This discussion can be solved purely by thinking, no need for proofs, because everything is obvious to the ones, who can think!

But because you can't, and you had to insult me, and mock me, even though you are ---------, --------------- repless ------s, here you go. I got you a proof:

However, as soon as you add a cheap GeForce GT 220 into the system and assign it the job of PhysX acceleration, the graphics subsystem speeds up, ensuring a comfortable frame rate even at 1920x1200! Despite the humble specs of the GT216 core, this hybrid solution is preferable to the EVGA GeForce GTX 275 CO-OP PhysX, even though it requires a second PCI Express x16 slot. There is a lot of mainboards with two graphics slots nowadays. The XFX Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition + GeForce GT 220 tandem looks even better, outperforming the mentioned configuration at every resolution. However, it cannot cope with 2560x1600, either.

That is exactly true but as i posted if I get 60 fps without PhysX and 30 with it why bother set it up? It does not add this much to the game, and my FPS will suffer.

The simple conclusion is to try it yourself if you can't or won't beleive others experience (or lack)of it.
The faster card will not display the render until the slower physx card has calculated it.

Lol. This thread is so full of win. Their are two sets of people arguing two different things but against each other.

So, if I may, ronnin is correct that, if Physx is enabled, the 9500 is far superior to processing on the CPU.

Everyone else is more or less correct that disabling physx and leaving the 9500 out of the equation is probably the OP best option, because slow is still slow, even if its a little faster than slowest.

Can we all get over this now?

I found you the proof. Happy now?

So it's not flat, afterall.

You can only compare PhysX enabled VS PhysX enabled
and
PhysX disabled VS PhysX disabled.

You can't mix them. Logic doesn't allow. Reason. If you mix them, it makes no sense anymore
