ASUS Xonar DX dead?

Thread Starter
I left my PC on overnight to download some MLP:FiM 1080p goodness
And in the morning I get no audio coming out from my soundcard. I know this thing is uber buggy so this is the things I have tried so far:
  • Re-install the drivers
  • Re-install the drivers and re-seat in all the different PCI-E lanes
  • Boot into safemode, driver sweep the ASUS drivers and then try the above
  • Try different MOLEX to floppy power connectors as well as different MOLEX power lines.
  • Disable driver signing

So far, nothing I hope it isn't dead, only had it for about 1 week

There's absolutely no way leaving your PC on would kill your card unless the card just....died for whatever random reason.

I know you've played with the Molex connector, but make sure it's snug.

If you're sure it's not spyware or something of that sort, I would RMA it ASAP.

I've had malware and uninstallations block sound before. I don't know why, but it was very apparent it was malware because it would have a red "x" type thing over my sound icon. I had to put in the Windows 7 recovery CD and do a system restore since system restore was blocked off as well. That got my sound back, but this doesn't exactly appear to be that.

I'm going to back-up now and Windows restore to about 2 days ago. If that doesn't help I already have contacted the store I bought it from and they are waiting for me to deliver the card so that they can RMA it.

I do get a red x over the sound icon, but it goes away after about 3 seconds when I start up.

You'll probably end up RMAing it since the red X on the sound icon didn't go away until after a windows restore for me.

Good luck with it either way and I'm sorry this happened to you. :\\

Before you RMA it, can you not make a small (say 20GB) clean partition on one of your hard drives and try running your card? Sounds like a software issue rather than hardware (I've had plenty of them with my old Xonar). Give this a try first and see if it works.

Yeah I could boot from another HDD, but then how would I even go about making it work on my primary HDD?
I already have tried restore and driversweeper

agreed

i have a friend who had a DG and it was a software issue but he did format all his HDD
by the way if you have a friend why don't you test it in his rig just to make sure maybe the card has no problem

Yeah but neither are quite as effective as a clean install. You mentioned you tried changing slots, that could've caused another issue. Keep it in one slot, make a clean Win7 install on any hard drive you got, install drivers for your sound card and test it. If it works, then it's a software issue and the RMA will be a waste of time.
