Looking for a 27"-30" gaming monitor

Hey everyone,
I am soon going to sell my current Hanns-G 1920*1200 27.5" monitor. I am building a high end gaming desktop this summer and I want to game at 2560*1440/1600. I don't really care if it's 16:9, 16:10. What I'm worried about is the input lag and ghosting I've heard about monitors this size. I was going to get the Dell U2711 but some people are saying the input lag is noticeable, so I'm not sure what I wanna get. I don't want any other resolution and no CRT.

Thanks!

Hey man this is the only 30' i'd EVER consider, Dell monitors are great, i've only ever had them and they work like stars!

Dell U3011 - Price £1250

If a whole PC didn't cost that much i'd have one of these and 2x 22' either side portrait for uber gaming!

The U3011 is pretty much a bigger U2711 and it's a bit too expensive, unless I can get it for less than $1000 i might consider it. I'm also sure that the U3011 would share the same input lag as the U2711 if there's indeed a noticeable input lag with these monitors.

I've heard a ton of people say input lag is noticeable on the U2311H, I bought it and I can't see any sort of input lag and that's being 21yr old with good eyes. If you buy the 2711H, I highly doubt you'll ever see anything close to input lag. Input lag used to be an issue with IPS, with the e-IPS these 2311/2711 are actually faster input wise than the 2410 and everyone uses those for gaming.

It's not. Hell I bought three (Again!) after selling my two Dell U3011's (Nice little profit).

Seriously the Dell U2711 packs everything in one amazing package, doesn't take up a crap load of space up on your desk, and is amazingly cheap for what it is (In Australia anyway, google coupons and you might get lucky and find a 25% off one smile.gif). The Bezels are a little thick if you're thinking of eyefinity but I haven't been using it all that long and my mate who had the same setup with his U2711's stopped noticing it after about a few weeks.

Seriously I've bought the U2711 so many times I've lost count they're just that great and Dell's customer service is fantastic.

EDIT: Should also point out the AG coating of the Dells. Some people hate them, while others don't mind them. It's all a matter of personal choice. There is also a mod on these forums I believe where you can remove the AG coating.

U2711 has just about the same amount of input lag as a random TN monitor. 15ms.

Your grudge against CRT is what? Physical appearance? If so, I'm fine with that.

Very interesting information everyone, I'll base my decision on what you guys say here. So what you're all saying is the IPS panel used in the U2711 etc is fast enough?

I don't want a CRT because I have no room for it, I'm gaming on a pretty old wooden desk, it's too heavy for it and I'll have a loaded HAF-932 sitting on my desk already.

Unless you are looking at 120hz monitors, it's fast enough.

If you care about input lag, you should care about the Hz too. If you don't notice anything wrong with 60hz, you shouldn't even think of input lag.

Also, what I said earlier about the 15ms, that's just under one frame on 60hz. So the amount of input lag is very tiny.

Most definitely. I play Bad Company 2 on them religiously and haven't noticed lag. tongue.gif Mind you others have so again it might all come down to you.

But I think it might be if you're a twitchie gamer or not. I think that's what it comes down to. I apologize to anyway twitchie gamers out there. tongue.gif

Gaming monitors?

Good luck with that on a IPS.

Get a nice CRT and run 1600x900 120hz if you want professional/hardcore fps gaming.

But yes, 2711 is awesome to the max.
