Are my Overclocked CPU temperatures too high ?

Thread Starter
Hi I'm new to overclocking I have never done it before and I just want to make sure that im not making my cpu too hot. I have an AMD Phenom II x 4 955 BE overclocked to 4GHz and I'm using an akasa X4 high performance cpu cooler along with my case fans. At idle my cpu temp is 35 c and during a stress test it goes up to 48-50 c is this a reasonable temp, I only ran a short stress test of 1H. I would also like to ask what is a reasonable time to run a stress test ?

Thanks Chris

50 c Load is great. No problem at all with your temps. But you should stress test with prime 95 or linx for a while to make sure its stable.

Not sure about AMD processors, but stress tests should be run until you're happy.

You could run it for 24 hours but then it will randomly crash days after your stress test. You could run it for 1 hour and then it will never BSOD till like forever.

Thanks guys I've been running a Prime 95 stress test for 16 hours now and no problems at all even my load temp has dropped down to 48 c I guess the thermal paste has set properly. Just another 8 hours to go.

50c is good, but for AMD cpus, its best to keep it under 52c. Anything over this and stability can become a problem. Absolute MAX temp for the Phenom II is 62c.

Thanks It doesn't go anything over 48 now after a 24 hour prime 95 stress/torture test it never went above 48c. I have also added a new case fan that helps keep the temps down on idle 29c but for some reason doesn't make any difference to the cpu under full load still stays at 48c. But as I can keep it below the threshold of 52c so im happy.

Thanks for the advice and help

I've crossed that border. No problems at all. Hell i've actually hit 77 once. Again, no problems.
