that is... correct.

That's them saying that if you agree to use a location based service, to which it says when you AGREE to a location based service you agree to upload your information to them for that service.
--------------
This is just a bunch of bs caused by crappy news writers who wanted a quick story and it quickly escalated.

Get over it already. Taking things out of context is fun and all, but this isn't 7th grade. Cut the crap and get some reading comprehension?

You're making a pretty big leap here, and pulling that quote completely out of context. Perhaps you should land a job at a newspaper. It sounds like you're fishing for a headline.

As stated previously, no data is transmitted for a service without your consent, which comes via a push notification before proceeding. Of all the apps I have that use this, my location data just makes the experience more convenient FOR ME.

You guys can opt out of the location tracking in Android. If you don't like it, don't use it.

And wow! This thread is saying they don't track you! The information was stored because of a bug, but it wasn't reported back to Apple!

YOU SIR ARE ALSO PART OF THE PROBLEM.

It specifically states in his link that apple stores information about nearly exactly where you are. The purpose of this is probably to improve their business; i.e. find out what most people use their phones...and where they use them...so they can improve on those matters.

However, you have no concent on this.

It wasn't caused by a bug. The only way it would be caused by a bug is if they were already planning on storing that information anyway, but backed out. Yes, the information wasn't being sent to Apple or anyone else, but that's probably because it wasn't yet fully implemented.

They patented plans to store your information to use for advertising purposes. They were obviously working toward that goal. How is that hard to understand?

Here is the quote:

"To provide location-based services on Apple products, Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device."

Taken out of context, that could be misinterpreted to make the reader think that apple is collecting your location data at all times and sharing that information. My point was that you have a choice in the matter, via a push notification that frankly I find annoying, to allow the App/Apple to use your current location. You can just simply push "no" and your location is not sent anywhere.

The "bug", if I remember correctly, was that the phone was holding on to these gps coordinates longer than intended on your phone's internal memory.

People have repeatedly stated that Android based phones have a similar option. Hope this cleared things up.
