Remote Desktop Over Internet? - Page 2

The nice thing about Teamviewer (and LogMeIn) is the ability to control you're computer directly in the browser. Teamviewer does have file exchange for free, in comparison to LogMeIn. Both great!

Your router assigns an IP address to each of your devices, but that IP address is not what is seen beyond the router. What you should be looking for is the Router's IP with a subaddress for your devices.

logmein is amazing,

but if you change your mind, you just need to forward port 3389 in the router (static ip or dhcp/mac reservation needed internally) and in your windows firewall / a/v

You need to set up port forwarding on your router.

I get this, I want the ISP assigned IP adress to access it from outside my network. Then you must use the correct port in RD like this xxx.xx.x.x:xxxx (IPS IPort) right? This is why its important to change the listening port of RD when you have multiple computers behind the router, that way the router knows which computer to send it to.. I think.

Also, I have my server set to wake on lan, and it wakes whenever I access it with RD. It takes about 40 seconds to wake and be responsive so the first attempt usually times out, then I reatempt RD and it connects. Have any of you guys used wake on lan with logmein or teamviewer?

I've used Wake on Lan on both TV and Logmein. Both work fine.

I lookup the IP with the router, and I am using a custom port and have ensured that the port is forwarded in the router. I stil cant get it to connect. Is this supposed to work or should I have to do more?

Thanks for the fast responces. +REP. I'll assume I set up port forwarding improperly and take another look at it when I get home since thats all Im supposed to have to do to use RD. This would just mean troublshooting the router and not A/V firewall, RD settings, ect since it works behind the router. Should be easy to figure out.

I'll also check out TV and Logmein since you guys all seem to think so highly of them and they're free.

TV and LogMein do not need any router setup thing bla bla bla. I'm no network guru or something and I have dynamic ip, firewall, **** router and it works like a charm
