Noctua NH-U12P compatible with Sandy Bridge 1155?

Thread Starter
A friend is selling me the Noctua NH-U12P 120mm SSO CPU Cooler for cheap, but I am planning on upgrading to Sandy Bridge. So I was just wondering if this heatsink will indeed work with Socket 1155?

Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608002

Please take note that this is the older model (exactly the one in the link above), not the SE2 revision that's selling on newegg now.

Also, just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me how this cooler would stack up against CM Hyper 212+?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks! biggrin.gif

Edit:
So basically, I'm getting these three items:

No mate, it would'nt fit unless you can get your hands on a 1156/1155 bracket for your cooler.

With the CM 212+ it should handle an i5 2500K @ 4.5GHz or higher with a couple of decent fans in push pull.

I don't think it would line up out of the box. I'm sure you could find or make a bracket that would make it work, but that may not be worth the trouble.

Woops, I forgot to mention. I believe it's coming with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608015

It's also coming with an extra Noctua fan already attached.

1156 is same as 1155 so it'll work IF the bracket works with the cooler.

Did the previous owner have that bracket working with that cooler? If so, you're good to go, if you get all the parts:)

Edit: After looking at both links, you're set.

Do you guys think this will be an efficient cooler for a 2500k or 2600k at 4.5GHz? How about compared to the Hyper 212+?

I think it'll get you to 4.5 ghz. It sure looks like it'll dissipate more heat than the 212.

IMO I'd get the CM Hyper 212+ unless you can get the Noctua for far more than less money but if not I'd go for the 212+.

This review might be helpful for you.
The CM 212+ pull ahead against the U12P in the review.
