long, long time (and also most subscribed).

I am not playing WoW atm, but I have always loved playing arenas.
If they ruin them - it is over
remember when there used to be a lot of wow tournaments?

I don't think lowering subscription fees will coax people back into WoW. If they left, they probably had a good reason. I quit after the first hour.
i doubt people quit because of the price, they quit because it gets boring.

if somethings fun and within reason (which 10-15 per month is) then people will pay
post #134 of 221
to me it wasnt so much lack of content, because i quit when i was like level 18, it was just how painfully slow it was.

Not really a huge surprise. A lot of this has to do with the fact that innovation with that game has been stagnant for some time. Sure, they add things now and then like phasing (which admittedly is cool) but stuff like that is a one-time deal, you complete it and then never do it again unless you level another character. Cataclysm focused too much on 1-60 content, where the majority of players may only level one or two alts and experience a fraction of that content on their way to 60. Adding new heirlooms items and RAF experience bonuses was an extremely counterproductive maneuver on their part as well; it makes it so that you finish half a zone and because you're now a few levels higher than it because of said items, you almost never experience the rest of the quests or content in that zone.

Endgame isn't really too interesting either. Battlegrounds are fun with a few friends when you're trying to gear up for arenas or rated battlegrounds, but then that eventually gets old once you're done with the gear. Rated battlegrounds IMO were poorly implemented. It requires the logistics to get together 9 other people to be competitive, and consequently this usually requires a weekly schedule so that people can log in and do it. I have enough scheduling in my life to not have to worry about a game that acts more like a job.

Arenas are another option, but this form of PvP is more of a rock, paper, scissors type game, where any and all imbalances in class design are put under a microscope and seem a dozen times worse due to the fact that death is a much bigger consequence in this environment. Arenas really have no place in an MMO; leave that to Quake and UT. This is coming from a 3-time gladiator.

World PvP is completely dead aside from the sporadic ganking when you're venturing out into the world to level up or gather. They discourage world PvP further by spawning an insane amount of guards to any players who would dare attack an enemy town. PvP servers are nearly indistinguishable from their PvE counterparts these days, and I'm not sure there's a clear-cut way to bring back a viable form of world PvP this late into WoW's lifecycle.

Some class mechanics and talents seriously boggle my mind. An example of this is a talent warlocks have called "siphon life" which is a 50% chance to heal 2% of your max health every time corruption deals damage. Why not make it a 100% chance with 1% heal? They keep wondering why PvP isn't balanced. Honestly?

The community in WoW is absolutely terrible now with paid transfers and the implementation of battlegroups, which pools you with other people from different servers you will probably never see again when doing BGs or dungeons. Everyone seems to think they're original and "pro" with the "lol" or "qt" at the end of their names.

If you're a DPS looking for a dungeon group via the LFG tool, be prepared to wait for 15-45 minutes. Tanks and healers usually get in instantly. Last patch (4.1) that just came out attempted to rectify this issue by making it so that tanks and healers who queue up can get an extra bag at the end of their successful dungeon run full of gold and other random items, including rare mounts. It's basically a form of bribery, and it is an extremely poor way to fix the core issue in addition to alienating DPS classes. I won't give any company who lazily implements "ideas" like this my 15 bucks per month.

Lastly, looking at the upcoming 4.2 patch notes they're actually touting moving out of quest daily enemy mobs' AOEs and rewarding you with achievements for doing so. They previewed a flying mount you can get for putting in a lot of work towards these dailies. Basically more carrot-on-a-stick stuff attempting to be disguised as "innovative".

Once games like Guild War 2, Star Wars MMO, and D3 are out this game is only going to lose more subscriptions as 4.2 is set to be the last major content patch coming out for Catacylsm for at least another 6-8 months. Most people are wanting something new and innovative, which is what WoW is currently severely lacking. This new group of developers is basically just riding the coattails of the original superior WoW dev team (which a lot of them are now working on GW2). Just my 2 cents.

left WoW about a month after cata and played no MMOs up until about a month ago, when I picked up Rift. Rift is alright, worth the 35$ I paid for it, and should hold me over until GW2
