[PCgamer] World of Warcraft’s first subscription drop: are you still playing? - Page 20

Yeah, I don't see any trouble in Blizzard's future.. they already own and operate 3 of the most popular franchises in their respective categories. I don't think any other single developer is able to have their own conventions.

Too bad my guild fell apart after brazilians took over warsong and getting into a new guild is harder than applying for a new job: no one will accept you unless you have the latest super duper 1337 gear.

I was on Warsong since Vanilla too. So glad I transferred out of there. It made the game fun again w/o having to deal w/ the brazillians.

Haha I was on Gurubashi during BC when I started playing, it was the same deal with them taking over the entire server, I don't think english is spoken there anymore at this point.

But, for me WoW was mostly a social game (playing with friends that I didn't have a chance to play other games with) and sort of a competitive medium (arena). Since my friends mostly stopped, and arena has been going downhill since Lich King, not much reason to continue.

I disagree, a game that you play too much is a waste. But you can learn a lot from games..Puzzles(helps you solve problems), rhythm(guitar hero), hand eye coordination (shooters). You get my point.

I've been playing WoW for probably 3.5 years now or something. I wouldn't quite call it the best game I've played but definitely the best entertainment value. 15 bucks a month compared to spending 60 bucks per game is for sure the better way to go in my opinion. I don't think I've ever got as much playing time out of a game other than WoW.

That being said, lots of people have been playing for 6.5 years now. That is a long time to spend on one title. Its no surprise that people are quitting at a quicker rate. In the actual earnings report blizzard said that the sub count always fluctuates with expansion releases, but it declined at a faster rate than before because people cleared content too fast. Don't get me wrong, Cata so far has been my favorite expansion and has definitely improved the game in my eyes, but a lot of the content was focused on revamping old world. Which was great the first few times you played it, but now its as mundane as vanilla was to me after the first time.

The raid content is great, but who raids the whole week? There has to be something else to keep people happy besides just raid content. I will wait till the release of firelands to see if I am going to throw in the towel.

I think the whole comment of "because people cleared content too fast" is proof in itself the majority of players don't care for heroic mode content because it offers nothing interesting or new to the story. Which honestly is how I feel about heroics. The way I see firelands design going is that normal mode content will be fairly easy, heroic content will be a step above but still doable and not a brick wall to most players, with heroic ragnaros being the kind of heroic lich king of ICC to please the hard core raiders.

Quake Con ? Or were you just referring to MMO developers ?

Try CCP the developers of EVE Online, even Minecraft has a convention up pretty soon.
And then you tell me I am presumtuous, the irony.

I still play, but I am constantly creating new alts and leveling new toons to keep busy. Now I am playing RIFT too, and the RIFT content (while the same kill x mobs or gather y items) is fresh, something new, and feels better than grinding at End-Game WoW. Plus the spontaneous environment pops are worth playing because you never know what you'll face (sure some of the people who have played it since the beginning have it on farm, but I'm not there yet).

WoW is definitely seeing its age come out. With reused content, no inspiration to players to explore other than rehash the content they farmed before, makes me curious if Blizzard just has too much on their plate. Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, ... TITAN. Who knows what the reason, but WoW needs fresh ideas to keep the population rising.

they have to appeal to a larger group, maybe adding a new wow, they have the nice leveling and dungeons r perfect but if u integrate that into a first person setting they would get better results. they should go for a wow that is multi system, Xbox, ps3 could even be Wii( <--- worst system ever). what i would not like them to do it make it real time game.farmvill is considered a PC game...
