3.8 vs 4ghz 955BE?

Thread Starter
So, iv been messing around with my 955BE for the last two weeks. I can hit 3.8ghz on stock volts and be rock solid with max temps at 45C ish. But 4ghz takes 1.525 and temps are pushing 60C. So what gives? is that 200mhz the most serious megahertz in history lol
post #2 of 17
Some chips can easily hit 4.0 and some can't. It is the nature of the beast. You could try to put heatsinks on your MOSFETS to see if it helps any.

EDIT: 60C is getting a little up there for this chip. I run at 48C @ 4.4 under load.

My 955 has the same issue. I can run 3.8 stable with 1.425v but to get to 4ghz i need 1.525. Is your cpu-nb overclocked? That can add some performance and stability as well.

Ya its at 2.6ghz @ 1.3v if I remember correctly. @ BWG I thought the same and purchased a heat sink for it and it didn't help any frown.gif

Also, yelling at my bios cmos didn't help.

For 4.0ghz you need between 1.475v - 1.55v.
You might need a better cooler to get lower voltage on the cpu.
AMD likes the cold.
EDIT
I have a friend that had a XIGMATEK Dark Knight and he which to a NH-D14. He needed .5v less voltage for 4.0ghz on his 1055T.

I got 4GHz on stock voltage. HAHAHAHA! Heck, I get 4.2GHz at 1.4125v even.

What kind of ambient temps are you dealing with?

Let me tell you something that happened with my chip when I went for 4.5GHz, I want to see if you had a similar expirience at any point while testing lower voltages at 4.0GHz.

When I set my voltage to 1.525v, I lasted 50 minutes on a Prime95 Blend, and then I BSOD'd code 124. Every voltage increase beyond that up to 1.55v resulted in a BSOD within 2 minutes when running Prime95 Blend. I went back down to 1.525v and tested it again and it lasted 45 minutes.

I have not stabolized it at 4.5GHz. But, it really seemed weird that I was able to run 45 or 50 minutes, but BSOD so quickly at every voltage increase after that.

Are you overclocking anything else while you are trying to hit 4.0GHz besides your NB?

You lucky duck, no everything else is stock. For the voltage, anything past 1.525 gets me 1 minute bsod in prime or Linpack, no matter the frequency. I think it could be a heat issue, at 1.525 when the linpack starts to unload on the CPU after being loaded in ram, I get an instant 20C jump, putting me at 55C and then I stop it because its climbing like a tard taunted with apple butter. (bad analogy) This is a recent issue, and I cant figure out why its being so stupid now. My face has become sad

Is it a c3 or c2? If c2 you will most likely struggle to hit 4.0

I know how you feel. 3.8Ghz at 1.41V for me but 4Ghz needs 1.52V. Tried pushing 4.1Ghz with 1.58V but even then can't get it stable (load 49°C).
