Have both HP dm1z and Asus 1215b, now what?

Okay so I decided I wanted a ultraportable yesterday and was torn between the HP dm1z and Asus 1215b. I had heard the dm1z build quality was a little better and battery life was a bit longer, yet I've always been an Asus fan. Turns out the dm1z has a 2 month back order at hp so I said screw it and went with the 1215b and ordered it from amazon. ns

Two hours later I go to best buy to return a present I bought for my dad. I'm in the netbook section and lo and behold, the dm1z is there and it on sale! 50 less than the Asus I bought off amazon. So I decided with the 2 week return policy that I'd buy the dm1z.

Now I'm sitting here typing on my dm1z and staring at a box from amazon that contains an Asus 1215b. What do I do? Can I open the Asus and see what it's like? Then return it? What are amazon's policies on this?

i would have thought the the asus is the better pick out of the two, but i could be wrong.

I did too originally, but after reading many reviews, seems the dm1z takes the cake. I'd like to try the Asus out but fear for returning it if I like the hp more.

How is the fan on the dmz1? Several reviews said it is noisy and on all the time. But yeah, it would be nice to try out the Asus but maybe there is a restocking fee or something? I'd just send it back if you like the HP.

Amazon is very good with their return policy. Feel free to open it and test it out. When I returned things, they never asked any questions. My returned items were always opened and tested out. I even returned a book that I finished reading smile.gif The 1215b has USB 3.0 IIRC while the dm1z does not, but if I were in your situation, I would choose the dm1z due to the superior reviews I have read.

If you do go ahead and open up the Asus, please give us a comparative review. I'm currently in the market for a netbook, and I'd love to hear a comparison between the two.

+1

I'm in the same exact boat as you are. I'm torn deciding whether to buy a dm1z or a 1215b (or possibly even a x120e or VPCYB15KX. As you can tell, I'm a real big fan of the Zacate APU.)

Go with the HP. Asus netbooks look like toys imo, and no offense to Asus fanboys (I like Asus too). But HP's dm1z and Lenovo's x120e are the best cheap netbooks/ultraportables you can find in terms of build quality and performance.

ive been going through the same process, here where i live the dm1 has E-350 and costs 410€ and the 1215b has a E-450 and costs 399€

thing is i want to replace the hdd for a ssd
and chek this out

replacing hdd for 1215b

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyjamTqPJRo[/ame]
replacing hdd for dm1 - jump to min 4:10

this is really what is making me not want the asus.

but also ive seen that playing 1080p content over hdmi can be choppy with the E-350 so also im waiting for confirmation that its beter with the E-450
