That's what a new report from market research firm Gartner seems to suggest, PCWorld reports. According to Gartner, SSDs are primed to have a banner year in 2012 as prices trickle down into the $1 per gigabyte territory, at which point mainstream buyers will start to come around.

120GB SSD for 120 bucks. Yeah, that's totally worth it at that price. Give us SATA III on those as well and w'ere golden!
We've already seen a few there - there was a Kingston on sale for exactly $1/GB recently. I expect more to follow as well.

Wow, i'd soo jump into this. I can live with 80 GB in the boot disk, but yea, paying like $130 when i can pay $70 for 1 TB is not fair

I paid $79.99 for my 64GB in 2010, so I would imagine we aren't too far off.

I was thinking of getting one of those OCZ Vertex II drives. The 120GB or 250GB(or whatever it was). Might just wait.

$1 per GB for current gen SSDs would be real nice. That price not including discounts would be awesome!

BTW, are laptops starting to come with SATA 3 now?

I know some 2.5" drives are now coming with SATAIII, but whether or not laptops themselves have SATAIII in their boards yet, I don't know. I imagine the newer i5s and such in laptops would.

Anyway, on topic. I might pick me up a SSD then. Just can't wait for them to get dirt cheap like HDDs are right now.
