This thread is almost dead and could be removed. There is a disagreement over the validity if having started it in the first place.

here is a other thing to think about, the quality of each card is different even though overclocking would shorten the life of that exact card it might still last longer then most of the people's cards that where not overclock or it might die within minutes of a overclock it's a risk we all know that

The OP is just mad cus he wasted his money. If someone is scared by this the OP might aswell say don't overclock your CPU as it will shorter the lifespan!!!!11oneomg

Tighter timings will increase current draw and heat, and could contribute to killing memory.

However, faster memory, especially on GPUs, tends to have loser timings. I would be surprised if the 6970 BIOS tightened them.

Been using HD 6950 with HD 6970 Bios since launch and game every day and not one problem. The only reason i can see it failing is if you dont cool it down property and leave it with stock fan profile.

Explain please. I am not doubting you, but I don't see how timing is going to draw more current.

Frequency and pulse width or duty cycle, sure. Which timings will draw more current and why?

As I stated earlier in this thread, I contend that the overclocking of the memory frequency will have way more effect on heat and current than the timings.

I have both a 6950 and a 6970 and they both run exactly the same after flashing the 6950, including the fan profile/speeds. That is, the 6950 fan runs at exactly the same speeds at the same temps as the 6970 does.

Because of this, I made a new profile for both of them and they both run cooler.
