ATI 6770 FPS Problem

Thread Starter
My buddy has the ATI XFX 6770 card and suddenly his fps has been ****ty. Dropping quite a bit without any change of scenery. Usually from 60 to 20 almost instantly and often. His card is brand new and installed in a stock gateway with an intel dual-core processor. Any suggestion as to what the problem could be?

What's his cpu at? I doubt it's a bottleneck but it could be if it's a mega garbage processor

The game he sees the fps lag mostly is WOW.
1920x1080 res I believe.
He had a nvidia card in it before that worked fine until it crapped out on him.

It's very possible he could be having a bottleneck, it could also be his RAM, or perhaps a bad video card driver.

Back when I played WoW, I always had this silky smooth 60 fps then it'd drop to 20fps, 15fps in Stormwind city, and it was due to a video driver issue. Make sure his drivers are up to date, and he erased all remnants of his old video drivers.

Sounds good got the new drivers and they help a bit although he hasn't messed with the video settings yet.
He's thinking of getting new RAM here is the tower: http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=PCGATDX471005QC

Any recommendations for good ddr2 RAM?

Why new RAM? That tower already came with a whopping 6GB of 800MHz DDR2. It would be an utterly pointless side-grade to either add more RAM or swap it out. But, if he insists: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166

BTW, awesome album from Meshuggah. I like their old stuff myself, Destroy Erase Improve.
