Need portable molex connection! Or molex to a/c ?

Thread Starter
For a complicated reason, I am desiring to have a portable molex power connection. Preferably hooked up to a battery of some sort. Molex coming from some type of a/c adapter would be another option, so I could just plug it in to the nearest outlet.

I know that something like this does exist and I've seen a/c to d/c adapters before but I would really love to hook it into a battery somehow.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Assuming the design allows power to come from the iPhone, it will probably only be 5v since it is a USB connection

for supply from a car battery (12V), you can buy 120VAC inverters that draw power from an automotive cigarette lighter socket.

in that case, why not just buy a cigarette lighter power port plug and wire it to a molex?

The important thing to note is that the molex power connection has both 12V and 5V (hard drives use both). Sure you could solder up a voltage regulator or a voltage divider (gives off a lot of heat); but for someone who isn't versed with electronics it'd be easier (and more universal) to buy the 120VAC to molex power brick, and if he wants the ability to run it from a battery just get an inverter as well.

For my externally connected (internal) drives I actually have an old PSU that I hotwired and removed all the excess connectors leaving only a few molex and a few SATA power connectors.
