Hmm, ok I'll try it with a cd.

Does anyone know why the cmd method doesn't work?

It worked for 6950 -> 6970 but not in reverse?

This is the situation.
Tried to flash the 6950 2gb in position 1.
But after flashing, I opened gpu-z and nothing changed.
I moved to position 2 and flashes again.
But now the 6950 has white screen (nothing appears)
Is there any way to get back to work?
I read that I had an old pci card to flash"damaged" in other PCI slot for flashing properly again.
But I don´t know how I do it.
This is right?
Anyone know how to do it?

MSI may not accept an rma unless you play dumb, but even then they may not due to the common 6970 reflash fad.
I just would like to disprove this stupid "it must be ref in order to unlock" nonsense.
Every single 6950 regardless if it is ref , non ref or fairy dusted is theoratically unlockable!

It only depends on if the card has been laser cut or not.
So please be so kind and stop spewing that around.

Some non-ref have only the locked bios.

I read somewhere that an old card is necessary to be able to flash the damaged 6950.

Any idea?

I thought the Twin Froz II could never unlock. The twin Froz III however can be unlocked. Good luck on the reflash - hope it works out for you.

Why dosen't this surprise me? A lot of threads where people ask which card would be best for me, the advice they get is to buy a 6950 and unlock it to 6970 for less money.

So those with very little to no experience get it and do it incorrectly is bound to happen, even for OCN members. I always suggest if you want 6970 performance, buy a 6970. You can over clock it even further and get more performance than an unlocked 6950. Which btw is a good card over clocked without the flash BIOS.

If your cash strapped then buy the 6950 and over clock it normally and be happy. For those reading this thread that don't know what your doing, take note.

If you can't afford a 6970 than I'm sure you surely can't afford bricking a 6950.

Not to mention these cards will give you more than enough performance to play the the games out there right now.

I hope the OP can get his card RMA'd even though it's his own fault. It really sucks to have to deal with what he did unknowingly. Good luck bud.

Other than buying a reference card, how do we know that a non-reference card will be unlockable or not? (short of the obvious answer of just googling/searching the hell out of forums for people's experiences, which may or may not really indicate whether they couldn't flash because of laser cut or PEBKAC)

i was able to unlock an MSI 6950 2GB by launching CMD as admin and doing the command line instructions. This, however, is a NON twin frozer or wtvr it is.
