PSU making buzzing noise when gaming

Thread Starter
i have the ABS Tagan ITZ series 800watt psu, here it is:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817814006

when i had my 9800gtx, and 9800gtx in sli, the system worked flawlessly. then my card burned out and i temporarily used an old 7600gs instead. now i got a used gtx260 to replace it and the card works well. however, now there is a buzzing noise that appears to be coming from the psu while im gaming. if i pause the game the buzzing stops instantly, and when i resume it, the buzzing starts again instantly.

is my psu dying? what is going on? the noise isnt loud, and i could live with it, but i wonder what is going on.

and also another question:
my psu has a "turbo" button on the back, and i think its supposed to combine the rails into one. what the heck does that mean? what are rails? and what does combining them into one do? can i have it set to turbo all the time? or do i set it on turbo only when gaming?

sorry im a noob.

Buzzing is bad
I think you should get a newer, better quality PSU.
Don't touch the turbo...
You don't even need an 800w psu.
Alot of crap quality psus are overrated on their wattage.

I'm no psu expert though, I'm just telling what I've heard in similar problems.

im not even sure the noise is coming from the psu though. i cant tell where its from. can a mobo buzz? or a video card? this gaming buzz never happend to me before, even when i had 9800gtx in sli. it started when i got the gtx260, and it happens only when im gaming, or when im vista is testing the system to give its rating.

It's coming from your PSU. I have a similar build myself, only now with my new 560GTX Ti Twin Frozr the buzzing sound is even more aggressive than before when I was running 9800gtx+ on it. The PUS is 3 years old, is it maybe time for an upgrade ?

*Also, I connected the 560gtx with two different rails, and used both of the 4pin molex connectors, so in total 4x4xpin molex connectors on 2 different rails. Not sure if that matters, but at least now you know..

Help us guys hehe biggrin.gif

If it's more a whine/sequel than a buzzing, it's probably to do with the change in voltages needed for the card, my 460's whine at stock voltages during gaming (0.978), whine even louder upto 1.050v but don't make a noise above 1.050v when gaming.

Different amounts of voltages probably give off a slight noise at certain frequencies which can be heard, probably from a capacitor on the card.

If it's actually buzzing I don't know, but I cant imagine it spells good things.
