ASUS cards seem to run cooler as well.
My Zotac 480 ran 20c hotter than my friends GTX480 both on stock coolers.

Plus, 3-year warranty via serial number is 10x better than a lifetime that is non-transferable and must be registered within 30-days to be activated.
Most asus cards i've ever had have been crappy overclockers. The only thing a better power delivery system provides is the ability to push more volts, it doesn't mean the gpu itself is capable of much more.

I chose evga because I wanted to keep my gpu for as long as possible, so the lifetime warranty will come in handy. But, if the OP is the kinda guy who upgrades a lot, then an asus card will be better.

I too prefer the 3-year serial number based warranty system, for the reasons stated above by MikeCDM.

I will say though that evga's customer service IS, in fact, top-notch, at least in the USA, which is all I have experience with.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but to the best of my knowledge, evga really doesn't 'make' any cards. I believe they are strictly a 're-branding' company, not an actual gpu-maker like Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte are (although they also will re-brand from time to time, esp. their reference models). The closest evga gets to making cards is when they slap aftermarket water blocks on their reference pcb cards.

You've seen the evga gtx 460 2win haven't you? That is non-reference. Also, a lot of newer evga cards are non-reference now, with custom coolers/pcbs.

No offense but that has nothing to do with EVGA. That has to do with nvidia and who makes their reference boards (foxconn I would think). Also I'm willing to bet it was a bad batch of vrm's as my 570 has been running at 1.1v 940 core since the chimp challenge started and no issues yet.

I had an EVGA 460 EE, and I loved it. But now I have Powercolour and I like them, MSI looks tempting though. ASUS is nice, but better have 3 slots for SLI.

When it comes to brand (loyalty), it can easily carry the thread OT (almost?).

Many replies are not really directly addressing the main concern of OP.
As I see it, warranty, customer service, resale value...etc are not mentioned by OP. Overclockability and SLI (2-slot vs 3-slot) are optional and so these are secondary issues only.

OP's main concern is 'base performance'. To me, that is straight-out-of-the-box performance.

Obviously, 580 is > 570.

EVGA GTX580 Superclocked has a 797MHz clock and so this should perform the best. The DS version will perform thermally (and acoustically) better than the reference cooling version.

Asus GTX580 DCII is 782MHz but I suspect its cooling will perform better than even the EVGA DS version.

Overall speaking, thermally + acoustically + graphically power wise, I say the EVGA GTX580 DS has an advantage of delivering a higher 'base performance'.

Non Reference Asus >> >>>>>> >>> Evga Reference/Nonreference.

Has anyone seen those GTX 570 HD(Horrible Design) models? They're actually pulling an XFX on you with your warranty!

Blew your reference 570's VRMs? Here's a new one with the GTX 560's heatsink!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-621-_-Product

Horribad.

My evga ti can't even go 980 core at 1.12 coz vantage crashes it's that bad. Then I read about other cards doing 1ghz at stock and it makes me wanna bite my keyboard til my teeth falls off and kick my monitor til monkeys come out.

Go for msi, asus and gigabyte non reference design.
