Which Cooling? - Page 2

post #11 of 20
Actually, there's many Air Coolers that will beat the Corsair H50 and H70, some examples are;

- Thermalright Silver Arrow
- Noctua NH-D14
- Prolimatech Megahalems
- Venomous X

I would grab a Thermalright Silver Arrow, it is currently the BEST cooling solution before going into a custom Water Cooling Loop.

I had the H50/H70 and also had the NH-D14 and the Silver Arrow, and here's what I can tell you;

1) The Silver Arrow is cheaper than the H70.
2) The Silver Arrow performs quite better than the H70 by almost 6ºC
3) The Silver Arrow is way more quiet and includes a pair of silent and quality fans which you won't even hear!

Now the question is, why would you grab an H70 over a Silver Arrow then?

I wouldn't ever grab a Corsair H70 unless the price was lower than the Silver Arrow, I don't see what's the point of paying a lot more cash for worse temperatures and more noise, unless you only wanted the H70 for it's looks and didn't mind having higher temps/noise.

I'll take a look at it... sounds promising. Just wanted to see if it would be worth the extra money. I turned off HT to keep my load temps under 70c. And idle won't go above 42c. If this will knock them down 10c-20c than it would deff be a good buy. But if I'll only see a small knock down then I don't really see a point. But I'll take a look and see wat the temps would look like on my cpu.

A couple of quality fans make the H50/H70 a completely different animal. On top of that there are a bunch of mods that you can do in order to lower temps even further.

Personally if I was going to do it again I'd go with the XSPC Rasa RS240/RS360 kit. About $50 more than a high end cooler but you get a fully customizable water loop.

I know, but in prices, we're talking about 70€ for the Silver Arrow and 90€ for the H70 (In Europe), that's a big difference, and if we add newer fans like a pair of Gentle Typhoon 1850RPM for the H70, then we'll have to add another 20€, which makes it 70€ vs 110€ ..

That's why I said the H70 is not worth it in my honest opinion, you have to waste a lot of money on it to make it perform properly...

They look kool but money is tight right now and idk if I'm willing to spend 150 just yet. 100 or less seems like a good bet, and only if it will give me better cooling over my current setup

You should be seeing a good 6-8ºC improve.

Are those G-Skill Pi any bigger than G-Skill Ripjaws? If not, you're fine.
