Where to start? I want a new setup!

So for years I usually just buy a good sound card and some decent computer speakers.

I've put off the new sound card far too long and am going to order an HT Omega to replace this Audigy 2. My speakers as of now are the Logitech G51. They're great but I want a real audio setup.

First what's the difference between the claro and striker?

Next, is where I have no idea what I'm talking about or getting into. I'm curious about hooking up a receiver to my system and going to start building a real 5.1 set. start off with 2.1 probably then add a few speakers later.

So...throw me some prices and stuff. I usually order my stuff from newegg

Thanks to all who help

[edit] Just talked to my pops and he has a receiver but I dunno if it'll work with a computer sound card?

no need to get a sound card you can just use the optical on the receiver to the optical on the motherboard, the receiver will be doing most/all the audio processing (not an expert, correct if wrong)

If it has a Optical or coaxial input yes it will do.

Well a good sound card will have some impact in the receiver but most of the work will be in the receiver. Audi is a Big world make sure that its really what you want cause you will spend a lot of money.

A few things to consider like good cable wire, a good optical or coaxial cable to connect the PC to the AVR.
Speakers is more of personal choice you got to listen a few brands to make up your mind. Can you give us a budget? And we start from there

I can give you a small idea of a 2.1

Denon AVR-1611
Kef C4 Subwoofer
Kef C5 Speakers
2x Profigold Optical cable or coaxial (PC to reciever and TV to reciever)
A good 1.5mm cable for the speakers and a Profigold RCA for the Sub

This is a decent set up but the range of speakers is so large you just have to see the ones you like Polk Audio or Monitor Audio are pretty good too

Is denon a good brand???

I'm not sure what my budget will be, I mean I love the sound from my 100 dollar speakers as it is so.....ya lol. I'm looking around for used ones but I'm not one to buy junk

Well I got a Yamaha RX-V467 I pick it up next week. My pops has some infinity speakers for his 5.1 system he's going to let me use. I'm eventually going to get a Polk Audio setup.

They had a real nice surround sound setup that was a package deal. I'll be set for a while then I'll prob just buy a couple bookshelf speakers for the fronts to replace the ones in the package deal.

Now my question is, it has HDMI as well as optical. Which one should I go for?

2nd question is would I be able to setup my old sub from my G51 to work with the new setup? My dads sub got fried during a power surge so all he has is the speakers. Any way Could I ghetto rig it?
