How do I get my 6950 past 840 mhz?

Thread Starter
Hey folks, I have an MSI 6950 FROZR II and afterburner only lets me take it up to 840 mhz. Ive seen ppl take it higher than that. Just wondering how I can go about doing that.

Thanks, GINK

You have to edit the config file, and change the "Unoffical overclocking" things all to 1.

Depending on your version of afterburner, some you have to Set the EULA as well to this:

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

ok so I followed the advice you guys gave me and it worked, but then I closed afterburner and it went back to stock. I had it running at 975/1470 stable no fragments. now when I try to get those settings back I hit apply and it goes to stock settings right before my eyes! FRUSTRATING! Any ideas?

you can edit reg to enable higher mhz.

Enable higher overclocks in CCC with reg entry

Do you have apply overclock at startup button clicked at the bottom? Also, save the settings to a profile. If for some reason the settings disappear, just click the profile button to load them back. MSI AB is a bit funky when overdrive is running at the same time. I would suggest to go to CCC and uncheck the AMD Overdrive box. Chances are it will set itself back automatically if you create a custom fan profile. But give it a try.

On this topic, Why is it's clock speed only 800MHz at stock while my old 5770 is 850MHz.

Ginkosu have you figured it out? Because this is my next card and I'd like to know about that too ahead of time.

You're wondering why a card much better than a 5770 shows lower clocks?
Simply because the 6950 architecture is just more powerful. Cayman (6950/70 chips) is better than Evergreen (5750/70 chips) so even with lower clocks, the card is more powerful (by far).

Hope that helped you!
